Icon A5 on CNN

I don't know if this is an old video or not but haven't seen them pop up for quite some time. Are they still building their plant in Mexico ?

No but they hired a bunch of Mexican lawyers to draft their sales agreement.

Millions ****ed away on its development ! Pound for dollar I think the 787 was cheaper and certainly will be quicker to start making a profit.

I think you might be confused. The millions were ****ed away in the name of development.
You are correct about the 787, they are certainly pushing more out the door up in Washington.

Just passed the 500 mark the other day.
The last time I was at the Boeing plant they said they were going to push one out the door every three days, and expected to meet that demand in the following couple months. Are they up to that speed yet?

That number sounds optimistic to me. I think the bulk of the 78's are coming out of the S. C. Plant.

See if you can find an estimate of the profit they make on the ones being delivered right now ;)

Nauga,
and his amortized development costs

Icon is hosing everyone in the industry with money, in order to get more publicity.

I would think they are making a profit on them now and if not yet then soon. Hard to tell bybthecway they discount their bulk orders. Either way, I don't think Boeing is strapped for cash.

Always liked the icon, just seems the company took a cool little design and business ran it into the ground, then all the restrictions they put on it just shoveled dirt on it.

They made one of their new bases KTPF (Peter O Knight) at the airport I'm taking lessons out of. They've been doing a lot of flying around here. They look like a duck out of water on the taxiway though. I think they've got three of them here. I know I've seen two at least.

They seem nice, I haven't had a chance to go talk to the folks but they've been doing demo flights (not open to the public) and I've seen a few guys (non-employees) get out with big smiles on their faces...

The folks at CNN put a smile on their face when the teleprompter tells them to and of course the demo flights wouldn't be open to the public. They might end up having to actually sell one to a customer that way.

From what I understand, the demo flights are to people with reservations or those who are doing flight training with them, not media folks. If you go to their website and look under "Flight Center" you can see what they're offering.

I can ask next time I'm there if they would let me pay for a one hour flight.

You should do that. I'm sure we would all love a pirep about the flying jet ski.
My money is on them turning you down but maybe you are a shareholder or a deposit holder?

According to this link, for the A5 "The Sport Flying Introduction class is 1.5 hours for $595". Its at the very bottom of the article.

According to Icon's site, looks like rental is $300/hr + instructor $95/hr. Yikes. Oh yea, if you're a deposit holder, you get a $50/hr discount on the training rental rate.

You could rent something fun like an Extra for that kind of money! By their math it would cost 12K to get your Sport ticket and about 20K for a PPL. I wonder why people aren't that keen to get into flying these days?

Next time I'm at the airport I'll go check it out. I won't be paying for flight time at those rates though! Geez.

Maybe just stick my head in and see if I can sit in one.
