trying to fill out IACRA form for checkride tomorrow. i signed up a while back but of course misplaced/lost/forgot my supersecret faa ID number thingy. so i try to register again and of course it wont let me. it says to call the help desk if i forgot my number and then doesn't give a number anywhere that I can find. call me a Luddite but its pretty darn easy to fill out an 8710...

Contact Information

Help Desk hours of operation are 6:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. CST, Monday through Friday.

For policy related questions please contact your local FSDO.

If you have an IACRA support-related question, contact AVS Support Central at:

Phone Public Customers 1-866-285-4942 Government Employees 1-405-954-7272 Email 9-AMC-AVS-Support-Central@faa.gov

I was able to contact them on a Saturday afternoon last year. The hours may have changed but they were very easy work with.

Oddly, my IR took seven weeks to go through on IACRA. My Commercial ticket took only four weeks with raw paperwork. Go figure!

yea i just called and was blown away at how fast they got me the info i needed!

is the only benefit that it (supposedly) gets you your license faster?

I had a problem that they couldn't find my Student Pilot Cert. # when I tried to enter it to apply for my PPL (I had the same issue with DUATS and had to email them a scan of my ticket). I called support at 6:30p on a weeknight and was asked for my # as he was on another call, and there was one other person to call back in front of me. He was as nice as can be. Not 15 minutes later, I got the call back and I just wound up registering as if I didn't have a student ticket. I was greatly impressed with the level of service and very glad that LM hasn't gotten their hands on this (yet).

No question that the folks on the help desk are great. It's just the IACRA system that makes you crazy.

The principal benefit is the reduction in manpower effort -- no more paper handling at the FSDO, just a direct shot to OKC with an info copy to the local district. Then at OKC, it's electronically filed straight in, with no keypunching needed there to generate the new certificate. Saves a lot of time and effort inside FAA, as well as being cheaper (we do the keypunching free instead of the FAA paying Federal employees to do it).

I got my commercial "card" via IACRA faster than my IR via paper. It's not secure, but I keep my userid & other information on a card in my logbook. If someone has my logbook and I don't know it, I've got bigger problems.

Luddite.

I used IACRA for everything after my PPL. I like it...it's much easier to get everything formated correctly, and it got the licenses to me quick. Also DEs seem to like it (at least most) from what I hear. I, too, keep my uber top secret user ID and password on a post-it in my logbook, along with a copy of my last 8710 to make adding up times a lot faster.

On another note...anyone taking bets on how long it takes for the customer service to drop off at the IACRA help desk; it is a department in a government agency, after all?

haha smartass

well we got the application filled out and i "signed" it. i had to call help desk again cause i left the super code at work. they answered and were very nice at 6 PM central.

had to call everyone in the pilots of america tech support team to figure out how to get internet explorer to be the default browser though...

DPE's "like" IACRA because the FSDO's are requiring them to use it (saves work for the FSDO inspectors). Most DPE's don't like it because of its clunky operation and because they have to carry around a laptop computer and printer if the local airport doesn't have one they can use.
