So to the OP..... What did you learn from this experience? Would you do anything differently if you could rewind time to before you took off?

No, not really. The most recent PIREP closest to us said no ice. After launch I knew we were within five minutes of the first approach where we could immediately exit the conditions if needed. I knew we had VMC 400' below us so had the accretion rate been any worse I would have immediately descended out of the muck. So, no....faced with the same data, I'd likely make the same flight. That said, if someone was launching in a FIKI machine ahead f me I would have asked and waited for their report before launching.
