I have a Garmin 480 that used to populate a Garmin 696 with a flight plan. I can't get them to talk anymore and I don't know what I did. Is there a switch or button I need to press

It’s just a serial connection.. first check and make sure the format is set right on that output channel (usually serial 2). Needs to be aviation out for a non WAAS 480.. also need to make sure it’s set to aviation in on the 696.. if it’s correct then wire may have been disconnected.

All 480s are WAAS, it’s just the setting for the output that needs to be aviation out to talk with non WAAS devices.

I have "aviation in" on my 696, but I can't ding the setting for "aviation out" on my 480
Any suggestions?

Garmin did release the installation manual for the 480, the info you need is in section 3. Accessing the serial settings takes a bit of effort and isn’t likely something a casual button pushing would do. If it worked okay before, but not now, it kinda smells like a bad connection.
