I don't care how crazy Tom Cruise is

It was done before he got too crazy. Maybe it WAS the movie that made him a little nut. And I agree, great movie. BUT ENTERTAINMENT. Let's keep the negative comments to ourselves.

The soundtrack came up in my iTunes random playlist while working tonight. I remember being a wee fry watching that movie and thinking "I don't think there is anything cooler than flying the F-14"

It was an interesting story. But, I was still too fresh off a carrier not to laugh at some of the junk that went on in that movie. I saw it for what value the movie had... Kelly McGillis. :)

Between Top Gun and Beverly Hills Cop, Harold Faltermeyer should have come out pretty good.

It has been a while since I've seen the movie. Didn't they launch with the masks loose?
Dunno, I haven't seen the movie since it was first released in the theater but I remember how silly that seemed even now. After all, the mics are in their masks...

For a good flying movie check out Sky Fighters. The story is about as ludicrous as Top Gun, but the flying sequence to BS ratio is much higher in this flick than Top Gun. Oh yeah and the french chicks in it are pretty fine :-)

Check out the Trailer

I was thinking about what happen to my legs and arms when I didn't hold them close and firm during my one cat shot. I can only imagine what that loose mask would do to your face during a launch. :yikes:

It was a good movie.

The gratuitous sex scene should have never made it in the movie, and I always skip it (I'm not a prude, but that scene just seems gross to me).

It was no "Hot Shots" however.

Gratuitous sex scenes are the ONLY reason to watch most movies.

It looked to me like they were still speaking into their masks and using the interphone. Wearing a mask for an extended period gets very uncomfortable and dropping it when not actually required is pretty common.

I fell for the F-14 when the Navy sent a captain in one that was so new it hadn't even been painted yet to Oshkosh. Nothing like seeing the jet pass 10 seconds before you hear it coming. B)

Top Gun... meh. some decent (if wildly unrealistic) in-flight sequences... I'll watch any movie with real aircraft flying around in it... but the rest I could do without. There are sooo many fighter-jock movies, even ones with love stories stuck in there, that are way better, IMHO.

For example... this movie gets points in my book for covering a lesser-known group of pilots, absolutely gorgeous footage of beautiful planes (and minimal but well-done CG stuff), very good accuracy in all details, and a love story that's actually a working part of the movie, not some crap stuck in there to make it workable as a "date movie".
