I did something "Careless and Reckless" today.

Yep, and of today most of it in the afternoon. Wonder how many people forgot to spring forward last night.

I know of at least one - the guy who was supposed to run the sound system at church this morning. :D Assistant pastor and the choir director took turns running up to the balcony to adjust things.

Sounds like another day at work for me. Though we do at least have DME (usually), and are always on a flight plan; which I'm sure is what saves us from daily floggings by the FAA.

Just don't forget which airplane you're flyiing. I can see the headlines:

"Major airline pilot inadvertantly attempts a trans pacific flight in a vintage single engine aircraft"

Given your routine forays into IMC and icing conditions, I would suspect so.

I'm still gunning to get an ADF installed in the 310...

LMAO. Not much chance of that happening.

so you can clear the power lines with two aboard and get replacement parts when things break :D

IIRC, you can do some parts-swapping into a C-85 and essentially end up with an O-200. That boost in power would be pretty handy in the summertime.

just having an honest 65 hp would be nice in a chief. the only one i ever flew was a lycoming powered one like Dan's. me and the owner on a summer evening from an airport at 1000 MSL were getting 2-300 fpm.

At Jack Brown's Seaplane Base the J-3 on floats I got to fly had an A-65 that had been upgraded to an O-200 using different crank and cylinders. At least, that's what they told me.

Having an affinity for unusual engines, I commend you on keeping your O-145 going, Dan.

Thanks! But it's a testament to the early Lycoming engineers that it is still going!

Simplicity, low compression, and overall smooth running has contributed to this engine's continued service.

(Lycoming sold the STC years ago to someone just down the river from you)
