RV-12_in_snow__Large___Medium_.jpg

You and me both....

BTW, the RV-12 was able pull the F-86 out of the snow bank....... well ...maybe not.

DCA - Closed.

IAD - Closed except PPR until 8 AM tomorrow

BWI - ?

Hangar collapse on 4 corporate jets at IAD, hangar collapse at HEF (no planes inside).

I really do hate snow.......I can't wait to retire to the south.

So far I've shoveled about 4 or 5 inches total this winter. :dunno:

Can't complain about the lack of shoveling, but it isn't going to do the lake levels any good next summer.

No arguments from me. Where in the south do you plan to go?

I actually would love to live in the DC area about 8-9 mos of the year, and down south the other three. Am hoping/planning to position myself so that I have only two more winters in DC - IE January 2013 I want to be in SC for the winter.

Yeah tough winter. We just got 4" of rain. Some mudslides in the burn areas but it did get up to mid 60's today, clear and a million.

We do have a guest room for you pilots who can't stand the snow any more.

Joe

Those 4 inches of rain fell when I was out there a couple of weeks ago. Guest room was Renaissance LAX.

That was the previous storm, we've actually been getting a fair amount of rain this year. This storm ended yesterday.

Maybe I do need to sign up for Twitter, as TW said, If I would have known you were here I'd at least have met you for a beer.

I'm out there on a regular basis & on a first name basis with some of the folks at the Ren. Will drop you a PM next time I'm headed that way....

Cool, if it's decent weather we can go flying.

That's all the snow you guys got? I keep hearing about this amazing historic snow, and you didn't get much more than us! Man it up for gosh sakes. The Californians can enjoy the nice weather content in the knowledge that they'll get lots of disaster relief for the fires.

After hand shoveling 647' of driveway, I can tell you it's a lot of snow.

Though not necessarily a record for Western PA.

:D The snowfall amounts varied quite a bit. Where Gary M got in the 2 foot range, we only got 8" and we are 25 miles north. I did enjoy it. Plowing snow is a lot of fun!

Wow, that was more than us. Just didn't look like it from the photos.

You folks probably don't want to see this.

Trust me....you may have snow, be we in the south have been dealing with record, off-the-freaking-charts, rain. I am soooooooooooo tired of the rain!

This is why I have a hangar. :)

We got 26+ inches.

Yah, I can see it coming in on the radar, we're supposed to get hit tomorrow. I wouldn't care except I can't drive my little convertible through this stuff.

You got it my buckeye friend! First off the Photos in Gary Mascelli's photo are really not depictive of what we really got here. I suspect a lot blew in the strong gusts we had since it is a fairly open area where his plane is. But to expand on What Gary Shelby said, Mascelli got about 2' Gary is maybe 30 miles south of me. I got about 22" and Shelby got only 8' and he is mmm 14 miles north west of me but Anthony got 26" and he is about 15 miles south west of me.

We are due to get another 18' on Tue night into wed.

And Larry's been kind enough to clean off mine next door when he's
had that snowblower fired up. How's that for good neighbors.

;-)

Looks like my yard, too. Unfortunately, my wife thought Saturday was better day for working in the yard than for flying. By the time I finished, I was too sore to go pull the 182 out of the hangar.

People make fun of me b/c I kept my other rear-wheel drive car when I got the BMW convertible. Frankly, as long as I live north enough to get snow, and drive a convertible - I will always have a second car. Believe it or not the little MB goes through the snow really well - all season Pilots and off she goes.

My first car (and the only car I had for my first year of college) was an '82 Jaguar XJ-S V12. Rear wheel drive, 320 hp (after I warmed it over), limited slip differential, a 5-speed manual transmission, and about 57/43 weight bias (that V12 was a great boat anchor of an engine). Despite what everyone said, with a good set of Firestone tires on it, the thing performed great in the snow. Drove it back and forth to New York a bunch of times in the winter snow storms. Everyone looked at me like an idiot. I suppose not much has changed on that front.

Well -- and I'm assuming you meant to reference "BM" -- with approx. 3½" of road clearance my little convertible goes into winter storage in my hangar about 3 days before the first snow storm(not to come out until late April/early May). Antiquity must be preserved in good condition after 44 years.

The Chevy S-10 truck becomes the winter beater(and the new shorter skis fit in the cab).

No, I meant MB. Mercedes Benz. I kept it when I bought the BMW convertible.

I am SICK of people complaining about snow!!

And your point is!!!!!

I have lived in Colorado, and now I'm on the east coast....the snow IS DIFFERENT.

I am tired. We've had 30" in my spot. That's after a couple of 4-6" storms. We normally don't get much snow.

My townhome complex has no place to move the snow. We've been digging out....throwing the snow from the shovels onto piles of snow we've already made....they are over 10' tall. I'm tired!!!!!

We also have a little farm 70 miles west of here. It's in a rural county of 7000 people. Our farm is 2 miles back from the dirt county road, and 5 miles from the blacktop. We're weekenders....I get to complain about the city snow, BUT......

The neighbors that live down my farm road are of the senior variety. The neighbor next door is 88 yrs old. They've been without power since Friday night.....they got their phones back yesterday. They have buried their food in the snow so they have something to eat. My elderly neighbor is trudging thru the snow for firewood to keep warm. The snow is too deep to be plowed.

We might have another foot of snow coming.......if so, there's no way my husband and I can get out there to help my neighbors.

Yes, I'm SICK OF THE SNOW!!!!!!!

Kaye

My mistake! I thought it could have been "BM" for the BMW, or even "MG" if of the British genre. Either way, class!

HR

if you saw it right now you wouldn't think that. it's looking a bit worse for wear. at least it's already a silver car.

ps. your convertible is beautiful.

Jerry,

Is that an AH 3000 or an older 100? It looks like a 3000 to me, but I don't remember that colour. Was it repainted?

Three SU downdrafts right? :)

1966 3000 BJ-8 MK-III, original color - Healey metallic blue, though repainted in 2001: totally stripped, all new body rubber parts, new top, new carpets, new trunk liner. As of October 2009 she has a new engine(short block) which was built in Lawton, Iowa. (Dual SU downdraft carburetors) When I put her in the hangar she had 750 miles on the new engine.

Photo 1 = not too long off the motor freight from Iowa
Photo 2 = not too far from being back on the road.

Shall we bet on whether I make it back to IAD wed nite?

Shall we bet on whether I make it back to IAD wed nite?

Should I start laughing now??? :D

A neighbor's husband has been trying to get home from LA since Friday on a Corp Jet. Last I heard, they're flying into NJ yesterday, and renting a car to drive home today.
