It looks like the East Coast of Florida could be in for our first hurricane since the '04/05 season, when we got hit 5 times.

But this one could be worse. Anyone here on the East Coast thinking about evacuating?
Personally, I stocked up on Scotch, Vodka and water today.

We are watching closely. Tomorrow night should be the decision point.

Pretty sure the Brunswick Air show is cancelled Saturday.

Come over to the west coast of Florida for a couple of days, the weather going to bea little windy.

I don't see it hitting anywhere south of Melbourne and maybe not Florida at all. Lived in Florida for a long time and it just would not be normal for it to make a turn that hard to the left from where it is now. I could be wrong but feel pretty sure it will stay off the coast until about South Cackalacky or so.

Bahamas are going to take a beating though.

That is my wife's theory. She even laughs when I stock up on necessities (like booze and water). If I evacuate, I would like like a real wimp with her staying behind and it would be even worse if she is right. So we will hunker down and sit it out.

Stock up and ride it out. When I lived on the Panhandle I went through Erin, Opal, Ivan, Dennis and Katrina. Ivan was the worst by far and got none of the media coverage that Katrina got. The massive flooding from Katrina could have been easily avoided by getting on one of the empty evacuation buses.... but I digress...

So at what point do the big boys pull up stakes and get out?

More specifically, when will they shut down Orland airport? I know someone trying to get out of there now.

I cancelled my flight tomorrow from MCO in anticipation of not wanting to sit at the airport all day getting bumped off of positive space...

I'm planning to fly to Sarasota in the 172 on Friday or Saturday. Should be fun.

I keep my bird in a hangar at DAB, not sure if I want to fly it out or not. Still trying to make the decision. My home is all stocked up and ready to go, if it wasn't for my plane I'd totally stay in town, but my plane is making me rethink that!

I have no idea what that means and Google is no help.

Hurricane Flight Rules. Typically comes with extra large bawls made from unobtanium.

I thought that under HFR, you could only execute turns about a point? :p

In all seriousness, y'all be careful out there. If you're in a secure location, stay there. If you're not certain, get the heck out. Be safe everyone!

We are rolling inland in the AM. Can't move the plane. Fingers crossed.

My brother just sent me a screenshot of his wx forecast:

Friday, 5am, 83F, 100% chance rain, winds N @ 96 mph.

That's Hurricane Jeanne off my left wing:

Smooth air and hellacious tailwinds!

We had a Marine Hornet pilot that took a rental 172 down to Myrtle Beach and back in the middle of Hermine passing by a few weeks ago. That took balls. Airplane actually made it back....minus huge chunks of paint missing from the leading edge of the wings.

Since the middle of the cone shows the eye less than 20 miles where I live I decided to move my plane.

I flew it out to Tallahassee to visit family. Weather is nice here. Hoping my car makes it through and it's not too bad! I'd like to return home soon to the way I left it!

Good luck to, all affected. Not something to mess with, been thru a couple myself. And typhoons when my Dad was stationed in the PI.

I finally decided to chicken out and am driving 40 miles inland to a Marriott. Lucky I found a room that takes pets. My house sits on the intracoastal about 30 miles from where the eye is predicted. An extra 40 miles inland should help a little, plus I presume the Marriott is a little sturdier than my house with the 40 year old, single pane windows.

I'm curious what I will find when I get back. I'm currently trying to get everything up off the floors and away from the windows.

My brother is going to hunker down and ride it out. Should hit his neck of the woods, south of Cape Canaveral, in the early AM hours Friday. My daughter in NC is getting ready for the rain that's coming her way. And yesterday was the first Wed of the month, so at 11am the tornado sirens were being tested right outside my window. Yeah, baby.

Been through a few dandies in my day, comes with living in Nawlins I guess.

Be safe and take the steps that need to be taken, put some tape on yer windows, get away from the windows, have some water and flashlights ready etc etc. Hope all goes well for our members that have to deal with this mess. I will be thinking about you while I am antelope hunting this weekend.
Have they started with the public service messages yet? You know, the good ones about not running your generator in your house, not using your barbecue inside the house?

This is going to be a complete crap show, just think of all the people who will be out of access to facetwitsnapbookplace!!!!!!!!!! Oh the Horrrrrooorrr

So this morning (Thursday) James Spawn said the storm would go out to sea then hook back and cross over Florida into the Gulf as a Tropical storm and could become a hurricane again.

There is plenty of room at HSV if anybody needs to move their plane although the ramp is filling up with Gulfstreams from Savanna. I have a room for a night if needed, PM me.

BTW, I had not thought about Bryan Norcross in quite some time. He was always a comforting presence during hurricane season in S FL.

Good to see he's still at it over on The Weather Channel.

Is that so? They're expensive jets so I get why their moving them but I wouldn't think they'd be flying them that far away.

The governor has been on TV a lot this morning warning people.
A few minutes ago, he described a 6 ft storm surge, with 15ft surf being pushed by 130mph winds.

He said "Don't surf".

Damn, I had my board all waxed up and ready to go. Whoda thunk it might be dangerous if he didn't tell us.
But I guarantee you, there will be people out there on their boards.

With 15 ft waves on top of the storm surge, you could probably ride over the barrier island over to my side of the intracoastal waterway.

I'm preparing for the hurricane. I'm going to the liquor store and stocking up. That way I will have few day supply as I watch the weather channel from my deck in Birmingham.

All of the Snowbirds are piled up on KAHN's ramp. It was a surprise seeing them this morning. I do believe it will be cancelled, if not already.

Here's the TAF for where my brother lives (Melbourne, FL)
