The week before I moved, I called HP to have a laptop sent off for repair under an extended warranty. During that call, I gave them a new address for Texas. Upon my arrival, there should have been a box waiting to be filled to return to HP.

The next week, I learned there was some "error" and it was canceled. Of course, they don't call me. I learn this only by calling to ask where the box is.

So, again I give them the new address. It's for the FBO where someone will be there from 6AM to 9PM to receive a box from FedEx.

That box never shows. I call a third time. It appears it was sent to my old address in Georgia. They updated the address on the service ticket but not the service contract. Brilliance!

I have them verify the address again and tell them to insure there is no record of the old address. How stupid of me to think I was dealing with competent professional customer service people! I should be shot for such an assumption.

Tonight, I'm thinking it's already Wednesday. It should have been here by Tuesday at the latest. Well, it was received by Tuesday. In fact, it was received on Monday... at my old address in Georgia.

I call tonight and cannot get any changes in because their system is down. One of the largest data handling and systems supply companies in the world and their system is down!

So, tomorrow I'm going to call back. I'll make a fourth request to get this computer repaired under its extended warranty. On top of that, I've sent a fax and letter to HP's HQ in Palo Alto.

There's no excuse for this kind of incompetence.

You're in Houston. Compaq's headquarters are up the road near Conroe. Check and see if the Laptop division is still based there... then see if you can personally visit someone in charge.

My experiences with HP were always good. Compaq - not so good.

Think that's bad, try dealing with Linksys. *shudders*

This is in India. This is where your call goes when you call for tech support.

See that antenna on the roof in the background? Yeah. That's a microwave link. The call centers are wireless.

They also use satellite dishes on the roof.

spoilsport :)

More spoil..

Besides that, the call centers are buildings as modern and with cubicle farms the same what the rest of us mole people work in, I would guess, in the suburban area of town. Bet Scott has been there.

They also have to report at work at 11 PM(?) and work all morning to be there when we get out of bed.

Today, I got a box at the FBO. It was shipped out on Monday, the same day the other arrived in Georgia. I figure that's about $75-100 in shipping costs they paid. Idiots!

yeah, I'm quite familiar with the hours over there ... in the "shoe's on the other foot" I support a large development team scattered across India, Singapore and China.

usually some time after 10 pm my time...

"Dear Mr. DBA,
