How does the FAA find out about controlled prescriptions?

Then don't lie, for sure. Just don't expect the FAA to deal with you in a efficient manner. Like most bureacracies, Aeromed exists to sustain Aeromed. Any good they do is a side-effect of their existence.

So talk to an AME, with the understanding he's the FAA's front-man; my non-professional opinion is they'll want to know why it was prescribed, if it's still necessary, and/or if you'll continue to use the med.

If it's psychotropic, and you'll need to keep using it, you are probably hosed. If a doctor says you don't need it and you discontinue use, after enough trees have died, paperwork has been lost, found, and resubmitted, and you've written a few checks, you'll get your medical.

I talked to my AME and he gave me the green light. Two weeks later I got my eligibility letter from FAA. As I mentioned it in my post, I was never diagnosed with ADD nor do I have ADD. It's a pretty common stuff amongst college students and as my AME said, FAA understands your situation. I'm just so glad the person who's reviewing these medical applications is not as moron as some of the people on this forum.

Just sayin', if you're gonna lie to the FAA, just get the drugs off the Internet from a foreign country. There are safe ways to do that. Problem soved.

Works.
I know right? I wasn't aware of the process the time I first go them. I was also studying a major that was not going to lead to holding a gov position that's why I didn't think twice about it. But, I did get my first class tho. I've started working on my rating since.

Internet is the best source I guess. I found some reliable webs

Thank you sir.

Man I wish I knew your real name. I'd drop it to the FSDO and OKC so they could investigate you. I don't want to share the same airways with a chump like you trying to make MY flights less safe. Gaming the system, lying on drug use, disqualifying factors...... I'll be all over you in a New York minute to see if I can figure out your real info. Slip just once and you are done my friend.

If you have nothing to say, stay out. No one wants your negative input.

Nah bra......nobody wants tools like you ****ing it up for the rest of us. Just wait till you clip a taxiway light or bend up some metal. Your world will come down so hard that you'll think Bubba would have actually been a decent cell mate.

I've seen military flight surgeons hand it out prior to a long flight. Called an "up" pill. Upon arrival on the other end a flight surgeon issues a "down" pill.

:confused2: In post #40, he said he reported the medication use, so it appears that he decided NOT to lie. :dunno:

There is no way an AME would brush off recent and illegal us of controlled substances like, "Yea, I totally understand why you self prescribed scheduled drugs. Just ground yourself for 48 hours each time you are under the influence of a normally revocable use of prescription medication. The FAA is totally cool with it since you are in college and all. Sign here young man and go fly with all those silly sober pilots!"

He is so full of **** and your a complete sucker if you believe one word of that story. He is admitting to recent, repeated illegal drug use. There us no effin way an AME just slid that through.

you are a tool

you are a tool

Why? Cuz Id report an illegal pilot? If that makes me a tool, then find me some work and I'll get to it!

I'll bet wouldn't call in a drunk driver either right? That's only a misdemeanor and all. this guy is committing felonies and sees no problem at all. Hope he's in your traffic pattern, brah....not mine.

I'm not clear on what felonies you think he's committing. He said that the drug was prescribed by a doctor, and that it wasn't being prescribed for ADHD, and he said he reported using it, along with the reason. You said you don't believe him, but what if he is telling the truth? What felonies would be involved then?

The FAA does a fine job of pulling airmen from the sky unnecessarily without Dudley Doright promising to save the day by reporting someone for something that doesn't matter.

Let them figure it out themselves.

False swearing to start. Ask Martha Stuart about that one.....

Bruce, is it possible to prescribe the drugs without the ADHD diagnosis (such as the example I gave)?

I had the doc on my last ship offer to prescribe it (Ritalin or Aderall, I don't remember which) for weight loss (apparently he had already done it for two other guys in the wardroom). I told him, in no uncertain terms, "hell no!"

The drugs themselves are on the no-no list with or without the diagnosis.

Yeah, I totally lied. You have no clue how this process works ha?

Man, you've really lost it. Stop acting stupid. Understand the process and how it works. Even if I was denied I would have the chance to appeal it exactly a year from my rejection.
You have to wait a year until you are clear the drugs then you have to find a FAA approved psychiatrist and go through a 6 hour testing which basically tells you if you have ADD or you don't. His examination with his notes get sent out to FAA and you get a letter of eligibility or denial.
I didn't go through this test because of my case.

STOP ACTING ALL TOUGH AND STUPID. Understand the process and how it works.

Bottom line, you are a MORON.

Unit74 is really unaware and uneducated on the matter. I wrote the truth on my FAA form, saw an AME and got my medical passed by him, and got my eligibility letter.
Sadly, Unit74 thinks if you have taken any of the disqualifying medications then you must not be allowed to fly for the rest of your life. He's is a total lunatic.

Can we stop the personal attacks? The MC has no way of verifying whether scooby.doo2016 is telling the truth or not. We'll leave it to readers to judge for themselves.

Hello everyone,
My question is, if someone who's never been diagnosed with ADHD but knows someone who can prescribe the medications for him/her, how is FAA going to find out about the medication?

If the doctor is paid in cash and he hands in a paper note for prescriptions and then the note is taken to the pharmacy and also paid in cash, how is this going to be tracked?

How would you go about in the case of FAA medical exam form 8500-8?
I only take them when I have a heavy load just so I could finish my hw on time. I don't take them during breaks, or school days just on the days where I need to get work done. I need to mention this again, I was never diagnosed and will probably never be diagnosed of having ADHD.

This is my second time getting them in my whole life. The 2nd time I got the prescription was about a month ago.

I'll just quote this for later use.......

There's nothing more fun than watching two Internet tough guys duke it out!

I'm not going to jump all over you, since you apparently had a legitimate question. I think the way it spiraled out of control with the personal attacks and so on is what led to the banning threat.

However, I will say that - the premise of your question does lead some to legitimate concern. Whether or not you obtained the medication with a papertrail is somewhat irrelevant.

I think the point that a few members made was this: The fact that you needed speed to complete your assignments tells us that your ability to manage work is not very good. Perhaps you don't have your work/life balance in balance. Perhaps you are actually ADD. Perhaps you have three jobs, go to school, and raise your little sister as well. We don't know. But if you go back and read your initial questions and subsequent replies, it really does look like you are looking for the easy way out. Easy way out of study/work (speed), easy way out of getting around this violation (hide/no papertrail), easy way out of medical (Find AME who agrees it's no biggie and issues you). At some point, perhaps in the cockpit at 3500' in IMC, it may all bite you in the butt when there is no easy way out...

I'm no stranger at all to the 3rd class medical hoops. I just spent a YEAR getting mine. Could I have "omitted" a few things and gotten issued immediately? Probably. I even had several local pilots suggest that I go to "their guy (AME)" who would presumably not ask questions <wink>. Would I be risking ever flying again if found out? Yep. I chose to go to Dr. B. and do it the right way. Its done and I dont have to worry about it ever again.

You also bring up a very interesting point - and one that maybe the rest of the board would value discussion (and has been somewhat). This sort of thing is going to become much, much more commonplace. Casual short-term use of some excluded substance, in the past, off-label. It probably warrants its own thread. I'm quite sure you are not the only one in the sky that has taken speed if it's as prevalent in college as I've been led to believe. And don't even get me started on the over diagnosis of ADD/ADHD.

At any rate - I don't think people on here (most anyway) desire to attack, but when someone posts "hey, I did illegal/disqualifying thing A, how to do I get around (away with) this now without doing it the right way?" they tend to tell you the hard truth. Whether its unsafe piloting practices or medical issues or alcohol/drugs.

Plus, the way you posted did kinda come off as a troll.. ultimately I don't think you were trolling - but it did kinda look that way. If you are still on here, and were serious not a troll - I do hope you think about your personal ability to manage workload/overload/risk.

There is no other authorized use of methyl amphetamine in the american medical lexicon except for terminal Cancer care in the face of mass doses of Hospice morphine. The doc is risking his license in all 50 states to use it for anything else. And the use is traceable by state boards. It is a DEA "schedule" medication.

A doc who offers it for weight loss does so at his own peril and in the eyes of the FAA self incriminates as to his ethics, when he writes a letter stating that is was given for weight loss, ergo they never want to write that letter, and thereby self testify against themselves before their board of medicine.

Hey man,

I apologize for taking almost 3 years to get back to you.
I realized that the majority of people on this forum don't have first-hand experience regarding the use of that specific drug so I signed off before getting more nervous about the situation.

As it was stated previously, I'd been prescribed the pills back in 2013 and 2014. I ended up sharing the 1st bottle and experimenting while I was studying a major that wasn't of my choice. 2nd bottle was discarded.

It still amuses me reading Unit74 comments...

Long story short, I called up a few guys who were AME's. One of them legitly was trying to set up some sort of a mental examination and charge me a few thousand dollars ( of course I didn't believe him ).

Lastly, I decided to make an appointment with a random AME's office, went in and told him everything. Before meeting with him, I had already submitted the form and had the prescription drugs added to the list.
Again, the AME was informed about the prescription drugs. He asked me if I was ever diagnosed with ADD and I said no. I asked him if it will be an issue and he said no!
I submitted two letters with the AME's notes. One was a letter I wrote to clarify my intent and the second letter was written by my primary doctor. Surely enough, I received the green light about 3 weeks.

I am far in my training and absolutely rocking it. This is my passion and I wouldn't have let anyone hold me back.
Future looks bright now that I have those stressful days behind me. We all make mistakes as teens but we can't let those mistakes define us.

Again, I appreciate your comment.

Works.
Well, that's more likely to get you dead from Fentanyl overdose in the form of what looks like the pills you thought you bought. Ask Prince about that.

I know this is an old thread but some info...When I do a controlled substance (pills) investigation...I’m in Michigan, and I use a law enforcement system here in Michigan called MAPS (stands for Michigan Automated Prescription System). Thing is, even though it’s a Michigan system, with just a click of a button, I’m searching nation wide...and although the furthest back I’ve personally checked is maybe 6 years, I’m told it shows decades. In my investigations it’s one of the easiest searches I do. I have no idea what database this system is tapping into, but it is admissible in court (in fact it is so accepted, I’ve never been questioned about it in court, which is why I don’t have/need the full details). Big brother is scary.
