I believe the sad fact is that human beings are not consistently capable of remaining safe beyond some cardinal statistical value in a complex environment.

Exactly what that number is, I don't know. That's why we rely on larger crews, mandatory well designed air and ground safety equipment (that is consistent to a higher reliability number) and crew resource management to stay safe in the really challenging environments.

that's why you shouldn't be allowed to take a bath without a class III medical.

If you take a sport shower instead of a private bath you only need a driver's license.

The down side is there is no place to float a rubber duck in a shower.
