How bout dem Buckeyes?

Michigan only lost to Ohio State 42-28 (at the Horseshoe, no less, not at a neutral site), so was Michigan better than Oregon this year? :dunno:

Was indeed a hell of a game! Also very happy to see the B1G represented well. Go Buckeyes!

Ditto.

It was a hell of a game. Glad to see the Big 10 succeed.

Ditto.

If not for this year's playoff system, this year's National Champs would probably be Alabama or Oregon. Which shows how wrong the old system was.

I also loved that there were so many students and real fans vs the corporate one-game-per-decade people that show up for the super bowl fiasco.

With Jim Harbaugh coming to Michigan, I think the Wolverines will become a much more dominant team, which will be better for the Big 10, and better for college football.

Would have been a good game to watch. Unfortunately, I'm stuck in meetings in Singapore. Did have the ESPN play by play running on my laptop.

Congratulations to OSU.

Mixed emotions, you beat us in the regular season, but good for the big 10. Hopefully this will show the sports writers/coaches that the sun doesn't rise and set on the SEC.

Yeah, if you hire an SEC coach...

:wink2:

Buckeyes, and particularly #12 were very impressive last night. He showed incredible poise and maturity for a 3rd string in his 3rd start.

Congrats to all the OSU fans.

John

Keep dreaming, but good luck to you and your new coach.

Michigan does win the sportsmanship award in my opinion. Those players were very gracious during the Ohio State-Michigan game this year. I was happy to see that great display of sportsmanship at that game.

Yeah, he was mostly on top of things and seemed to take charge of the offense. It doesn't hurt to be built like a brick ****house, either.

Meyer coached BGSU before hired by an SEC team. He brought his style of coaching to the SEC, not vice versa.

TCU might argue this system is wrong, too.

There will always be someone on the bubble who isn't happy, but at least this system with four teams has a better shot of getting it right. It has to be better than the politics that forced a split in '97.

Hope it works out that way. It didn't do a thing for Nebraska with Bill Callahan. Sometimes you get a pro guy who disregards the "traditions" involved in the big programs and it divides the team/fans. I don't see that happening with Harbaugh though.

Agreed. A rivalry is no fun when all you do is go stomp on them once a year. I hope Harbaugh can make change for the better. He certainly has the chops to do so.

Maybe Chip Kelly will go back to Oregon when he is fed up with the Eagles, and their ownership, which may be any day now.

Actually, his first collegiate coaching job was as an assistant at Ohio State about 30 years ago -- before he went to BGSU. So maybe he was a Big Ten coach all along?

As an SEC homer, I was surprised that OSU just ran over Oregon like they did, 4 or 5 turnovers and still beat them like a drum! :) I am not a big fan of Urban Meyer, but he is a great coach and he had a complete team ready to play, including his 3rd string QB!!
It really exposes how bad FSU was this year, the OSU/Bama game could have gone either way and I think Alabama would have done the same thing to Oregon. But I do like having a playoff system and I think this year the best team in the country is National Champion. :D

Agreed. Only problem is you start expanding the field further, and you're really pushing those college kids hard, both the idea of playing 16 games in the season and taking them out of the classroom that much more. Even the 15 games these two teams played took a serious physical toll if you look at the number of injured players late in the season.

Which is why they need to expand this system to the Top 24 and eliminate all the whining. It works pretty darn well in the FCS.
To put that many teams in the playoffs, you'd have to shorten the regular season below 12 games and/or eliminate the conference championship games. Otherwise, the season gets way too long. And cutting back the regular season would have a financial impact on the schools which don't make the playoffs.

4 or 5 years ago I was in Cleveland on business, and the Cleveland Plain Dealer (I think) had an article that said that a good Michigan team would be a good thing for OSU.

And then the 9th team will argue they were hosed.

Typically at #9 you've got 3 losses. They'd be better off assessing what mistakes got them hosed instead of how the committee picked another team over them.

But at least TCU got to kiss their sister with the #3 ranking.

How many basketball games get played in a season? How about baseball? I'm not necessarily equating the physical toll of football and baseball, but time out of the classroom is time out of the classroom. Taking the top 16 teams would pretty much ensure that everyone who has business competing for the national championship is there. If you had 3 or 4 losses and whining about not making the playoffs, most people will laugh it off. If you had one loss and didn't make it into the top 4, there's discussion to be had. If everyone sticks to a 10-game regular season, it's over in 14 games for the national champion contenders.

I would agree with this, there is a point where the system will never be perfect, and that's ok. It gives us something to talk about. Besides a four team playoff should be relatively accurate in most years.

Michael how many of them could get at least a B in your class?:D

Not many, my classes are fairly tough. Craig Krenzel, former quarterback who helped win the National Championship was in one of my tough courses and earned an A-. Seriously bright guy. Most football players are nowhere near as intelligent as him.
