A .44 magnum with the right ammo and a decent shot can easily kill a grizzly. It isn't the ideal bear killing weapon--but it has dropped plenty of them.

Maybe. Plenty of people have dropped mountain lions with guns. It beats the hell out of not even being able to try.

Yea well if one dumps oneself, one doesn't know one's bike and gets what one deserves. I've been on an antique too long and tend to forget that the front wheel can be lifted too easily nowadays. When I've had the capability of lifting the wheel, I've been smart enough to not do that.

Point is to screw up the dogs ballistic trajectory plans and leave him eating your dust.

Pepper spray and/or walking stick is always good to have for four legged or two legged threats. Yes, please check local laws first. When I used to run and bike a lot I'd get chased by dogs. My philosophy was to run straight at them to get their survival/flight instinct going. It always worked. We are bigger and if you yell and wave your arms it intimidates the heck out of them. I remember being so angry that I chased a large, previously vicious German Shepherd to h*ll and back because I was tired of his crap every time I ran. The hunter becomes the hunted.
