I note I am waiting a long time for some pages to load. And when the wait is underway, the computer appears to be attempting to contact
googleadservices
google-analyticals

Even though I have them blocked out in "Hosts"!

Seamonkey 2.03
WinXP Pro SP3

PS thanks to Troy I am free of Trojans etc. Have done multiple scans with
Malwarebytes
MS LiveOneCare
Windows Defender
Avast
and all is now clean!
Also did a remove all Restore Points after the scans, then put a new RP in place.

Other's know better than I do but when you block with the hosts file you need to let them timeout. This causes a delay. It's not a bad way to do it but not really fast as far as I know.

Dave, Joe's correct; the slowdown you're seeing is pages that use Google's tracking services are "waiting" to try and reach Google's servers... the timeout is causing the delay you are seeing. You can either put up with the delay, or comment out those lines in your HOSTS file with a # at the beginning of the line.

I'd like to do whatever results in less waiting.
So having them listed in the hosts file does not tell the browser to 'continue, we are skipping google-analytics'. It blocks access by google analytics and this takes time,..correct?
I don't really care if they track me, I just don't want to wait while they do!

comment out those lines in your HOSTS file with a # at the beginning of the line
I think this means put a # in front of the tracker address so it Can track you. This would be faster. Is that what you mean, Troy? Thanks.

If you don't want to be tracked, there is a way to do this for most advertisers.

Google also has a browser extension that does the same thing, but without a cookie, so you can still clear all your cookies and not be tracked by Google.

Thanks - I don't care if I'm tracked.
I don't want to wait around while they do (or don't).
It's a patience issue, not a privacy one!

Then you can comment out or delete those lines. The only thing your hosts file must have is a single line:

127.0.0.1 localhost

If the rest were placed there to block malicious sites, then you can leave them alone and just comment out the ones that are causing problems.
