RANT!!

Charlotte needs a new airport design!! Whenever this guy pushes the ENTIRE airport grinds to a halt. We were told to expect holds because they were running out of tarmac to put people short of the entire ramp. FAA ATC had everyone stacked up on every possible taxiway while AAG Ramp ATC decide WTF to do! We rolled out the entire length of a 9,000 runway because every high speed was blocked. We sat there for 30 minutes while they pushed, unhooked, ran After Start Checklist, taxi checklist and finally called Ramp to figure out where to go.

This happens every afternoon when they push the A330 flights in the middle of an arrival bank. It's insanely stupid.

Sounds like an ops issue, not design.

Sounds like an ops issue, not design.

It's something! If you taxi to 18C from the E gates you'll travel through 4 ramps before they'll dump you out into FAA asphalt. On a good day, it's easily a 20 minute taxi as you have to wait at every ramp line to get cleared in, wait for mainline to figure out what gate they are and stop for a food truck driving like a mad man.

Yesterday, I sat for 15 minutes behind a mainline guy because he didn't have a gate. So instead of ducking him into a hard stand, they'll keep him sitting out on the main taxi line. If you ask to go around him because the rest of the ramp is empty you'll get yelled at for disrupting their "Flow".

I've been in there 7 or 8 times but I'm GA and it's pretty easy. I've only landed on 36R or 18L. 36R gets you right in front of the FBO. Although if you big boys are in the terminals I am sure it sucks..

Is that the only 330 here? I watch it depart everyday while on break at the training center.

LOL. This all reminds me of the "pushback wars" at the old Stapleton.

If you wanted to annoy the crap out of the competition during the big push for both companies, you just pushed all the way across the alley. Blocked them in. Usually done in retaliation for them doing it, so it never ended. There would just be short truces from time to time.

Irony: The two companies have merged since then. And the building at the base of the tower is being torn down this week. (Tower gets to stay still, apparently.) And I work in a warehouse office building dead center of where 35R's north end used to be. Our parking lot was just before the paint for the numbers.

Moral of the story: Nobody will care in twenty years and they probably will have changed something there at that airport by then. You'll be doing something else by then, too. Probably annoying the crap out of some regional guy by blocking the alleyway with whatever you're flying by then. :)

It all goes by pretty fast. Enjoy it.

It seems like every time I fly on a regional into CLT to the E gates, they land us on 18R-36L. Long taxi. Just can't wait until they build the fourth parallel and there's one more runway to cross. Even using 5-23 as a taxiway doesn't seem to help enough.

Is CLT a focus city for Delta or y'all opening a mini hub?
I have no idea. I don't think so but we still do a decent amount of flying out of there. It seems like I have a CLT layover every month.

That whole thing is just for yall? We've been debating on who it's for.

Well yeah unless it's go home day. Go home day is full cruise thrust and min turns!
"Center we're going to cancel IFR... Would like flight following direct to..."
