Holy Schnikes! 9 Months to Obsolescence

You'll be looking at twins sooner than you think. Most of the people that call me looking to buy my old twin are family men who've had that ubiquitous moment when they had the whole family onboard, at night and the engine started running rough…

Doesn't take more than that.

Heck, I've been looking at them for years, but that doesn't mean I can afford one. I might be able to afford an old Apache, but that's about it. One with Geronimo mods and the 5th seat might do the trick for a while, but if I remember right, they have less useful load than a Cherokee 6.

Cherokee 6 would fit the bill well. It's not a speed demon by any stretch of the imagination, but if you're already used to 130kt cruise, you'll feel right at home. It sounds like most of your trips are in the sub-3 hour range anyway, so you can get some extra load or climb performance by not tankering fuel around.

Yes I did. Are those pretty rare? I've never actually seen one in person.

There's three of them on barnstormers right now. They're not as common as the 182, but the share a lot of similarities (and parts) with the 182. If I was in your shoes, I might seriously consider one.

Noted. Sounds like it's very similar to the Cherokee 6 260 in many ways. Same HP, nearly the same speed, pretty close on useful load. I would definitely consider it.

According to this thread http://www.pilotsofamerica.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49182 the child bench seat that goes into the baggage compartment was available beyond your E-model.

Probably not the most comfortable option, the bench and the kid sitting on it take a lot of space away, while you would actually rather need more, but you would be able to safely fit your entire family in your 182 and the rather minimal remaining room for baggage might not be much of a constraining factor for a family visit or a burger run anyway.

Huge congrats to the OP. Glad someone is making new humans. Odin knows I'm not.
