So there's a circular TFR centered about 7 miles NE of PTK, surface to 2500 feet. Using Foreflight I determined that the center is right over the intersection of Buell Road and Adams. According to local news, the search for Hoffa's remains is under way just off Buell, though the cross street wasn't named. My guess is they're related. Anyone know for sure?

If so, why establish a TFR for something like this? Just to keep out news helicopters? They can't be seriously afraid that the mob is going to use an airplane to try to take out search crews looking for human remains.

If they did that in the Meadowlands, they'd have to close TEB and possibly EWR.

More than likely. Lots of emphasis on keeping the gawkers at bay since the news helo midair in Phoenix a few years ago.

Couldn't tell ya how much of Michigan they've dug up, but it's a lot. This one will likely be another false lead.

Can't have news helicopters getting in the way of leo drones.

Oh I know. Last year it was a house in Roseville, about 5 miles from where I live. But I don't recall a TFR being issued for that.

An old Italian man lived alone in the country. It was spring and he wanted to dig his tomato garden, as he had done every year, but it was very hard work for the aging man as the ground was hard. His only son, Vincent, who used to help him, was currently in prison. The old man wrote a letter to his son and described his predicament:
Dear Vincent,
I am feeling pretty bad because it looks like I won't be able to plant my tomato garden this year. I'm just getting too old to be digging up a garden plot. If only you were here my troubles would be over. I know you would dig the plot for me.
Love Dad
A few days later he received a letter from his son:
Dear Dad,
Not for nothing, but don't dig up that garden. That's where I buried the BODIES.
Love Vinnie
At 4 a.m. the next morning, FBI agents and local police arrived at the old man's house and dug up the entire area. However, they didn't find any bodies, so they apologized to the old man and left.
That same day the old man received another letter from his son.
Dear Dad,
Go ahead and plant the tomatoes now. That's the best I could do under the circumstances.
Love Vinnie

Earhart and Hoffa. Every year or two they seem to come up with new leads and create a lot of hype over it. :nonod:

Why anyone actually gives a shi-tzu about Hoffa is unclear to me. The guy has only been dead for about 30 years. Odds are however killed him is either dead or too old to be a hazard to anyone. Odds are however ordered him killed is either dead or too old to be a hazard to anyone. Odds are whoever buried him is is either dead or too old to be a hazard to anyone. What this has to do with any aspect of public safety is beyond me. You'd think the cops in Detroit would have enough on their hands without this nonsense.

but THINK of all the taxpayer money they can waste, trying to get their face on TV? That HAS to supercede any real work. And the upside is they can use the make believe search to demand more in the next budget.

Like I said, the only interest of public safety is to prevent the stoopid news gawkers who have nothing better to do from running into each other. Sadly, you cannot trust those idiots to police themselves.

I don't know whether it's true or not, but I hear that if you play a Sinatra song backwords it sounds like "Jimmy's Dead.... Jimmy's Dead...."

I thought it was the FBI digging? They are supposed to have a HOT lead this time, unlike the last 10 HOT leads.:mad2: I honestly don't know what they plan to do if they find him, maybe verify how he died? It's the mob, they don't leave a lot of evidence behind, no hitman's fingerprints or somebody accidentially dropped their wallet in the grave before the covered him up.:dunno:
Waste of tax dollars! :mad2:

Pffft, I'd say a Hazard is an active shooter, hostage situation, suspected bomb or oridnace, fire or other activity that involves a life threatening situation, not digging up a 30 year old corpse.

Has it ever occurred to anyone that a Hoffa lead just may be a convenient excuse to dig up local grounds to look for something that may be completely unrelated?

That's it! They have to fix some corrosion on one of the NSA interface cables that hasn't been upgraded to fibre-optics yet. Good bye Sac Arrow, you should have held your silence.

Sounds to me like they're taking advantage of neo-fascist "security" policies to suppress the First Amendment.

But that's just me.

What's next? A rolling TFR for Justin Bieber? Not for his protection but ours...

While it's a bit hard to believe, prior to 9-11, that's what most TFRs were for, keeping the swarm of lookeeloos and newsies out of the way.

Actually they were to keep out curious hobby pilots in their cessnas. pre 9/11 flying news helicopters you could get permission to enter most tfrs.

They key there is permission - meaning they can control the amount of traffic in there.
