When did I post? When did he edit his original post and change the parameters?
I have no idea what the original parameters were in his post so I'll abstain from indulging you in that line of questioning. ;) Regardless, even if the original parameters allowed turf-only fields, yours wasn't the highest. :p

BTW there's a private field in MI that's even higher than Stambaugh, called Northwoods, 1642'. It's a few miles north of LNL (another airport that's ALMOST Michigan's highest, except that it's just across the border in Wisconsin).

Interesting. Kinda hard to believe that Michigan's highest airport beats out Kentucky's... or Massachusetts' (or even Missouri's for that matter).

Yes, good to know that Florida does not hold the distinction of being the state with the lowest "highest".

WOW - thanks for the info.

Marfa TX I would not have guessed that.

There seem to be a bunch of airports missing from that list.

How so? Are there a bunch of states that I am unaware of? Are there really 57 or 58 states like Obama said there was?

I'm not sure. Mammoth (KMMH) is at 7,100 feet but there are some smaller mountain strips that are higher. It's not depicted on the sectional but there is a paved, restricted use airstrip Southeast of Bishop called Coyote Flats, which is right at 10,000 feet elevation.

Mammoth is highest, I haven't seen a strip at Coyote Flats in years. Its long gone.

Sorry, read the list wrong..at first thought it was trying to list all airports, not just highest in each state.

Vail base elevation 8,120'
Steamboat top elevation 10,568'

And the parking lot at A-Basin is around 10,000 MSL. Ski area goes up from there.

And not the highest, but the lowest:

Furnace Creek (LO6), elevation -210 feet. It's in Death Valley.

I've been by an airport around -1000 MSL. Of course it's not in the US (Dead Sea, Israel). I think it's in the attached picture.

Washington

Mt. Saint Helens

Is that WN10? If so, it's not a public airport.

And not paved, either. :D

(no idea why there is a giant gap in my post)
...
Because every one of those CRLFs before each of those [row] tags is shown above the table. The VBulletin code wants the entire table code all on a single line.

But the second table was done exactly the same way and there was no gap between the first and second table. When I edit, or quote, I show no carriage returns or line feeds. It looks normal. :dunno:

I did go and edit it. Weird, I made the tables the exact same way.

I learned to fly out of X04 outside of Orlando.... 143' msl if I remember correctly..

Highest point in Fla is around Lake Wales and Boch Tower..

According to the state of Florida, the highest point in Florida is at Lakewood Park, Walton County, FL, at 345 feet. That's near FL's panhandle border with Alabama. The nearest public airport is Defuniak Springs, 54J, at 284 feet.

I think you are missing the point, that list was the highest to lowest (of the highest in each state/territory), not the actual lowest. There are several below sea level on the lowest in the state lists.

Just trying to help.

New Mexico's Red River (N02) is a Heliport only.

Thanks... I learned something new today...

Arcadia, LA (5F0) may be the highest @ 440ft. I know the highest point in LA (Mount Driskill @ just 535ft.) is somewhat close to there, anyhow.

I was surprised by this one.....Hagerstown Indiana Apt (I61) is 1000ft elevation and is an actual grass field for real airplanes and heli's. RC guys use a portion but its intended for us who sit inside our planes. On the other hand, the hagerstown airport they listed (I19) is an RC aircraft field with a possibility of landing a helicopter though I'd guess they would be more likely to land on the other side of the road in the cornfield, it would be safer. They have it listed as the highest in indiana though....Winchester/Randolf county (I22) is 1122ft, Richmond (RID) is 1139 and both of them are paved public use. . . just wondering how your search picked the fields and how many others are off.....

Does every thread need to turn into political commentary? Even innocuous threads seem to head toward the SZ.
I recall sitting in the spa at my club with a guy two years ago. It was near Christmas and I asked if he had family plans for the holiday. His response was a tirade about Obama and liberals and how he would never invite me to his home because I was always taking money out of his pocket. I responded in the only reasonable way possible.

So, yes Virginia, anything and everything can turn into political commentary.

When we travel, my wife and find the highest point. In Missouri, the highest point (on Taum Sauk Mountain), is wheel chair accessable.

In Florida, the highest point cannot be reached from Florida. We have to drive to Alabama and then come down to it, and the only way out is back into Alabama -- the road between two Alabama cities dips into Florida to the highest point and then comes back out.

I've never thought about making it a point to land at the highest airport in a state, so this gives me another things to do list.

That looked great Ed... Haha.
