If we really want to save some bucks and help the nation and it's people it is the CORPORATE Welfare we need to end. corporations don't vote, it's by graft & corruption that Corporations have take our country from us. Welfare to the poor is trivial. Just how many billions on a NO BID contract did Cheneys comanies (KBR & Halliburton) make for the shoddy work they didin Iraq, Including electrocuting our service men? Gas prices are going to go up as we continue to level our standard of living with the rest of the world. China, India, etc., will continue to increase their use of fossil fuel as well as just about everything else. Good for them, bad for us since we will be the ones having to adjust our lifestyle to get by on less.
Just think about how much we waste/throw away without even thinking about it:
Cellphones/TV's/computers (basically any consumer electronic)
Trading cars every couple of years
Trading houses has become much more common
Food
Plastic being used for everything
Etc.
All of the above require oil to produce so its just not fuel (transportation cost), its everything in our lives that will be affected. Doesn't matter, I'm still going to fly even if I have to drive a Prius to the airport and use a very uncool 5 year old cellphone.

I'll just keep driving my 12 year old Jeep Wrangler. So what if the fuel economy is poor. It's still cheaper than buying a new car and having the payments.
Trading houses? Moving is a pain in the a$$. No way am I doing that if I don't have to. 14 1/2 years where we are and no plans to change that.
