I might sound lazy but I am thinking about leaving my Stratus 2 in my plane and maybe tucking it away somewhere in my Cherokee 180. I was thinking in the rear baggage area and then use the external ads-b and gps antenna. This would also help with the possible overheating in the sun.

I don't think I am allowed legally mount the cradle for the Status permanently anywhere but would have to use say a suction mount or just place it under a seat or something. If I plug it into the cig power it will auto power on with the master switch so it should be pretty hands-off..

Do any of you guys hide your Stratus or tuck it away?

I always take mine with me in my flight bag. It may not make the slightest difference, but I didn't know if the temperature and moisture extremes would be an issue. I know the avionics in the plane do fine, but I didn't know if things like the bose headsets and stratus were as durable.

I have mine velcroed into the armrest compartment and hooked up to power from the cig adapter in there. I have it set to auto shut off when power is disconnected. Works perfectly. It starts up when I start the plane and shuts off when I shut the plane down and speed drops to zero (that way it will run on battery for many hours if I had to turn off all electrical in Flight for some reason). GPS signal is good enough but I did buy the accessory remote ADSB antenna that I have going under the carpet to the rear footwell area. With that antenna I usually get 5+ ground stations when at altitude.

It works really well and is out of sight out of mind. I never forget it at home and it never overheats in there.

It may be overkill but I like having a third AHRS source (plane has two), a second traffic source (I have ADSB out in the plane so it works well) and a second source of datalink weather (XM in the panel) at all times. Plus, if I have an inflight avionics fire and need to shut off master, I still have moving map gps, Attitude + synvis and traffic on my iPad. It's like an almost fully redundant mini glass panel.

I may try that.. I have to wait for it to arrive back from repair though.. I had to send it back to Sporty's because the attitude would roll randomly to the left 30 degrees and the disconnect too..

Hopefully I get it back next week!

I take mine with me unless I am flying two days in a row. Like to keep it charged and handy when riding in another airplane. Have also lent it out a few times to friends to try it.

Do other people have access to your hangar?

What do you do with your headsets? Do you leave them in the plane or take them with you? I'd do the same thing with a Stratus.

I leave them in there... I am not really worried about theft.. I have a locked T-Hangar with a Wifi security camera connected to my internet connection there.. Call me paranoid or maybe a geek lol. I like to be able to look in on my plane from time to time and receive alerts if there is any motion in the hangar lol

Then why do you want to "hide" your Stratus?

I don't want to hide as in keep it a secret but place it somewhere so it will be out of the way and can stay out of the sun..

I wish I had an internet connection in my hangar. It would make updating my garmin database more convenient.

we have a hangar...we leave ours sitting out on the desk plugged into the charger for the next person to use. I think all 4 of us have a different place we put it so we just leave it like that. It's another 15 seconds of stuff to do before the engine is running so it's not a big deal.
