I was out of flying recently for about a year and a half. Not due to job loss - when I went through that I also had to deal with owning an airplane, but fortunately I found a new job relatively quickly - but because I lost my medical. By the time I was legal to fly again my flight review was expired, and my insurance required 5 hours of dual before operating solo again. So I booked time with a local CFI and did some dual, a FR, and an IPC for good measure. Since then I've done a long XC to attend a conference, and even some solo work in hard IFR. As others have said, just grab a CFI and do it, once you are in a financial position to fly again. The rust will come off quickly.
