I was thinking about this. Whenever my mom calls me I wonder "What does she want now?" I rarely get calls from her unless she wants something.
 
I called my dad to meet up for dinner tonight and as I was dialing, I thought of this thread and said to myself don't say "Hey whaddaya doin"

He says "Hello"
I fumbled and go "Hi dad where are you goin? I mean whats going on. er what are you up to?"

Without skipping a beat he says "pretty good, how are you"

So I think there is some default language on the other side as well

I couldn't agree more been a rough week in our little town lost a 22 year old girl to brain cancer and have 3 of four other families in real battles right now. Cancer SUCKS! Lost my Mom Grandmother and several other relatives and friends and I am just tired of it. :mad::mad2:

My Grandmother (not the one mentioned above) worked as an operator for the telephone company back when we had those types of people and taught us to answer the phone, "DFH65 residence, DFH65 Speaking can I help you?"

My parents taught me to answer the phone the same way. Of course, now we don't give out our name or address over the phone. BTW, I also spent a while as a telephone operator.

Just think, she may be making things up just to talk to you once in a while. Maybe it is time for a visit. She has, after all, known you for your whole life.
