Here we go again.

Well... That conversion will be cheap... NOT.:no::nonod:

Why would it be any more expensive than the lycoming 180 horse?

the engines are actually cheaper, the engine mounts are readily available from the salvage yards off the front of a 337.

you will be required to build a header tank to fit in the kick panel of the boot cowl. but that's an easy do.

But in the end you get 210 horses up front, and constant speed prop, with a very small penalty in weight, because the IO-360- is only the angle valved version up grade of the 0-300.

I think you are suger coating the entire process....

Get back to us on the added weight penalty and the ability to aquire that mount, and have the old cowling fit and the cost of a legal prop /governor and the numerous other "little" details it will take to arrive at at FAA legal conversion......

I hope it works out for ya but my gut feeling is you will have a ton of money in it when finished.... IMHO.

Have you ever completed any engine up grade?

We have, and the 2 aeronca champs we converted to lyc O-235's for pulling ultralight gliders went exactly as you described. Buying used engines the total cost was <$10K each. Since we got the champs virtually free missing their FWF it made it about a wash, the cost was little more than buying the C-85 and related parts.

OMG a used engine ? No body in their right mind would ever fly a used engine.

it gets worse, I have a used engine on each wing and we're about to spend 4 days trusting them with my childrens' lives

Seldom do the experts think about, "every one drives a used car" and "every one flys a used engine"

Expect a call from DHS Child Protective agent when you return.

As of Saturday afternoon, the interior is out, the inspection panels are off, the cowl is off, and all removed parts have been moved to my hangar, the wings are ready to lift down because they are only held in place by pins.

we are ready to transport the big parts to my hangar this coming week.

Congrats. Or condolences. Either way, at least you have something to do. :)

Wed this week we got the last of the 170 put away in my hangar. now the restoration can start.

Tom,
Is Oak Harbor on Whidbey Island?

BTW the whole restoration process sounds like a lot of fun wish I was in a position to help with something like that. Happy for you.

oak Harbor is, but the aircraft is at BVS

I have family on Whidbey is why I asked. I had to look up KBVS as I had no idea where that is. Now I know, my wife took the Sagit casino for almost $11K a couple thanksgivings ago on one of their penny slots
That was a great trip.

when you are again up this way, we are in the book.

I will definitely let you know the next time we head to Whidbey. We have actually thought about retiring there in a few year, I love the area. Reminds me of Alaska but not as cold.
