Help me find a CFI-I in an odd location (KFOK) gabreski, Westhampton, NY

HI!

I'm a casual PPL (non-career) and I have my very own little cessna. I keep the airplane at Gabreski in westhampton, NY for the summer and was hoping to work on my IFR rating a bit. Unfortunately there are no flight schools on the field and none of the schools a bit further west are interested in hooking me up with an instructor who will meet me over there.

Any suggestions on where I can find someone to help me out? Any CFI-Is on the east end of long Island have some free time this summer?

Have you tried contacting the FBO at your aiport or airports you would be willing to meet an instructor at and asking if they know of any instructors around? In my area, that usually is the easiest way to make contact with a CFI that isn't associated with a flight school.

I'm pretty sure they don't allow vending machines on Facebook. Can you imagine all the posts about different ways to get the snacks or sodas stuck in the mechanism?

Seriously though, Facebook is actually one of the best places for this type of information. Any geographically-oriented FB group gets these types of questions all the time. There are many, many CFIs out there (like me!) who are NOT associated with a flight school and might be perfectly happy to work with you at your airport. Just need to ask around - definitely ask local pilots for who they use for flight reviews, etc.
