Harley Davidson leavin' Milwaukee

Labor negotiations, if a company can make more money somewhere else chances are pretty good they're going somewhere else.

Paul, the speedometers are already made there, I guess they could build the rest of the bike around the speedometer...

99 FLHRCI rider.

"When you think of Milwaukee you think of beer, brats and Harley-Davidson," said Steve Daily, a researcher at the Milwaukee County Historical Society.
Actually I think of cannibal serial killers, Laverne and Shirley and Sprecher's Root Beer. The only time I give Harley a thought is when a couple of riders blow past my house with their piped Harleys blasting at 150dB. Then I think of South Park and the F-Word episode, I laugh then.

But why not send their production to China. Almost all of that Harley clothing and assys. are already made there. Outsourcing, it's what makes America great!! ;)

I think they have plants in York PA and KC, too.

Labor is part of it. Wisconsin also has a fairly crappy tax environment for businesses, having recently implemented combined reporting which has very significantly increased the state tax burden for Wisconsin-based companies. I'm hoping for repeal by a new incoming governor.

The Chinese are on a 50 year plan to dominate the world and they're ahead of schedule. A chinese company just bought Volvo. They'll own GM, Ford, and Boeing before the decade is over.

I remember that plant from when I was young and they were owned by AMF. My Dad worked there for a couple of years, and we went to some family days. Heck, he had John Davidson watch after me in his office while he did some work one weekend! :)

Ed Gein? He was from Plainfield

Well, as long as labor demands wages above free market rates there'll be outsourcing.

It will be a sad day for Milwaukee when Harley spends the weekend washing and polishing the factory, then puts on their snell-approved bandannas and leather vests, then loads the factory up into the back of the pick-up, drives it to Kenosha, rolls it off, and parks it outside a bar.

WS and MN have been crappy state income tax spots for at least 32 years. Take it from a guy who sold tax planning investments there.

I think they want to come to MN to visit Brett Favre:wink2:

Volvo? Not even the Swedes drive 'em, and I just heard on the radio yesterday the V70 was the least-stolen car in the US. :P

We owned two of them in the last twenty years. Around 65000 miles the start falling apart. Nickel and dime you to death! It seems like every time you have to fix something it's $1500.00. No more Volvos for us.

Did you know 95% of all Harleys are still on the road?

The other 5% actually made it home.
