Hangar Listings.....

Is it just me, or is there no decent way to figure out hangar availability and pricing at airports around the country other than calling and visiting?

I think a nice site would have more than just a "what's available" classifieds; maybe a listing of the going rates, length of waiting list, etc.

Do you think such a site could get a decent amount of ad revenue or a subscription fee?

I think it would require the site owner do a lot of legwork/calls etc and a lot of ongoing maintenance....

Edit to add - maybe a "VRBO" section listing available space for transients, too....

I think you'd have a real hard time getting folks to pay for such a listing service. Hangars are a pretty local thing and most folks only have a few choices in their area, so calling around isn't that big of a deal. Even so, there may be some value for it, if you can get airports to manage their availability status online.
 
I had the same issue.... Couldnt get info very easy. I finally found a ratty old open door community hangar which I regret. Bird shh.. always on the plane and my paint is stained from it.

They just leased every single T hangar they made at the new Conway airport. They have two more planned to be built and there is a wish list growing daily for spots. I think a total of 5 are planned, 12 hangars per bldg.
 
I had the same problem when I was looking for a hangar. I would make phone calls during the week, then go up on Saturdays and just talk with people. I ended up subleasing for 2 months before I got a call about an available t hangar.

I was frustrated at the time at how difficult it was to find out anything. I did find some websites that looked to do what you want but they seemed to have little to offer me at the time.

Hangar Trader is not too bad. Best I've seen so far.
 
Aren't you usually limited to a specific area when looking for a hanger? I went through this a few months ago. There's 3 airports close enough to me that I would hanger an airplane there. I called all 3, got pricing and put on the list at two of them.

Buyer pays all fees...Owners list for free... I'd use it...
 
my experience has also been 'old school'

call FBO's. ask people walking around. Post to craigslist. put listing on bulliten board at FBO or similar space. Call local EAA chapter.

I know, but my home airport won't build and won't lease land for individuals to build on.

The city council along, with the airport manager who is also city attorney, thought is, "I don't have an airplane, why should I care about the city owned airport?" All airport funding goes straight into the city bank account.

I think he was talking to me about building the website....(which likely won't happen)
 
Networking and being a friend. After about 4 years of a crappy rentals, a pilot/friend who knew airport politics got me a buy-in on the airport hanger coop. Would never have happened without being a friend and a good guy for the 4 years.
