I am trying to set up APRS from the plane using a Beofeng radio, a TNC3 with bluetooth, and APRSdroid on a Samsung tablet. This will give you a map of all the ham operators around you and you can communicate via APRS/SMS messaging. It is supposed to give you email send capability as well. This will work like ADS-B as well and your friends can see where you are on a map (https://APRS.fi)

I used to be into APRS but I haven't kept up with it...I remember that you could even text with it, which was convenient while flying. It required a server that someone had set up connected to a phone line, so I'm not sure it is still possible...but I did try a couple of text test messages, and it worked.

Done that. I used a Raspberry Pi with DIREWOLF and a few other apps running on a battery pack. I had a WiFi adapter linked to my phone for the internet connection. The 1/4 wave 2m antenna was clamped to the strut and worked great. It's very portable and can be carried onto any vehicle and installed in seconds.
