This is NOT a political post.

I live in Maryland, and for those of you around these parts, you may know that our Governor's father passed away last week.

I was asked, along with three others, to provide music for the reception at the Mansion. While there, I met the Governor, and his lovely family. I also met Governor Christie, who came, as well.

I am posting because I wanted to say what wonderful people the Hogans and Gov. Christie were today. It was an honor to play for them, and they made a special point to seek us out and chat with us a bit, and have a photo, too. (This will not normally happen under normal "gigging" circumstances.)

All in all, a very good day.

That's pretty darn cool. I've wondered what kind of guy Christie actually is. Despite some bad publicity, I always thought he seemed like a decent human being.

What do you play? I swear we need to start a POA symphony....

<-------- cello player

I played tenor saxophone in high school. Then I hit one of those broken reed super high scratchy notes that ripped everyone's ear drums as well as my desire to ever play the sax again. BUT, if we're putting the band together......

Same. Had a concert last night playing Tchaikovsky 4. I don't get to play as much as my college days but the local symphony helps keep the rust minimized.
That's great. And not at all a simple symphony to prevent rust!

He was very personable.

Quit trying to compete with Kenny G. He's the master of nasty soprano sax. LOL. :-)

I play acoustic guitar (mediocre), baritone horn (mediocre or worse), and have some old dusty awards for jazz singing somewhere around here. Got forced to sing opera against my will in college. And of course did all the concert choral stuff and all that rot. Had both electric bass guitars and played a couple of classical concerts on a double bass for music school stuff long long ago.

Nowadays I just sing in the car, and get my fix listening to the wife sing barbershop and join her in the car for that, also.

Been thinking about taking some lessons and forcing myself to get better on the guitar, but it's a time thing.

Would go get sucked into the whole barbershop world but that's even more time I don't have, and my range dropped over the years and I'd likely get tapped to sing Baritone, which in barbershop, to me, is the most hideous but absolutely necessary part in most arrangements. My wife is a Bari, and it's a strange strange world. LOL.

I would rather stay a Tenor, but can't even hang up there anymore. I think some of those guys have vice-grips strategically installed somewhere I'm not willing to install them.

Who can play the Jurassic Park theme song on a trumpet?
<---- this chick

I took up guitar for a while, but playing guitar made me feel obligated to sing and I can NOT sing.
