GTX 45R Squawk input via GTN

My Narco transponder Is on its way to greener pastures.
I’m planning a panel upgrade to G3X Touch (experimental), but I’m not ready to do it all yet.
Ideally, I want to replace the transponder now, and reuse it when I do the full panel.
The GTX 45R is what I was planning for the end-solution.
However, I’m not sure I can use it without the G3X.
I have a GTN-650.
Does anyone know if I can input squawk codes from the 650 for now, and the GDU 460 later?
 
Garmin says yes. Looking at the installation manual on page 65 will give you the diagram needed, and the configuration instructions are in there as well. And you can connect the 460 when you get it later, so both units could control it (unless I’m missing something in configurations).

Man, I hope you’re right. I’ve been going through the manual, and I see clearly the GTN can supply the GPS signal for the 45R, as well as receive traffic and weather. Is it implied that it can set the squawk codes? I don’t see that explicitly.

Interesting. I wonder if that's a limitation on the experimental transponder, as we have both 650s and 750s controlling them without issue in our helis at work. Best bet is to contact Garmin directly and see who's right and who isn't.

You have GTX 45R's in a helicopter?
 
They're on the AML, so it may be a different Garmin remote transponder than these. 45DR, i believe. Definitely diversity, definitely the 45 in and out.
 
And definitely the GTNs of both types controlling them.

Pretty sure you're talking about the GTX 345.. Totally different box, but that's the best solution for OP probably, albeit more expensive
 
It's quite possible. They are remote boxes like this. Guess it isn't surprising that Garmin would sell less capable boxes to the experimental market.

Yep. That'd be the GTX 345DR. I think the 345D and 345DR (and their Out-only 335 counterparts) are still the only Diversity models Garmin makes.

GTX 345R would probably work for the OP, but it does look like it's $1100 more.
