Great circle route.

Dreaming about really long distance flights in the Bo. Does Aopa flight planner give you a great circle route? In other words if I plan a flight from San Diego to NY say, will the line it draws be a great circle? If so then I can pick airports close to the line for fuel stops.
I don't have it here at work so I can't check it out.
At what distance does a great circle vs. a straight line start to be significant?
On the other hand maybe its best to go via what's interesting vs. what's expedient. Still, interested to know.

Yes, it gives great circle distance. Planning direct, the route distance and great circle distance match. Plan airways, and it shows both your route distance and great circle distance for comparison.

John, have you ever tried the fuel planner on Airnav? It gives you a great circle route and lists many possible fuel stops, showing you how much you'll save with a slight detour off the shortest distance.
