I seem to recall there being a map which would show GPS integrity issues for specific locations / times.

I just went for my nightly jog and was unable to obtain a GPS lock on my iPhone which meant no GPS tracking of my run. Oddly enough, this sucked. I've gotten used to the voice queues which will come on and tell me my pace, distance, etc every few minutes via my headphones.

Curious if there was an actual GPS issue for this time-frame or if my iPhone was just being a pain in the ass.

I had thought the iPhone didn't use GPS satellites, but rather it used multiple cell phone towers to provide the same effect. Kinda like LORAN. As such, if there aren't enough towers, it won't work. I could be wrong, but I seem to recall someone telling me that.

That's how the first gen iPhone worked. 3G and 3Gs have GPS built in.

Thanks for clearing that up for me. I think the person who told me had a first gen.

1st Gen also uses a database of WiFi SSD locations. The DB company actually has guys driving around to see that "Pauls Net" comes eastbound 1/2 mile before "Max's Deli Free WiFi."
