Got yelled at by ATC....

I wanna hear the magic words. If I'm close and they haven't cleared me and I'm flying at an altitude that won't keep me under the outer shelf I'm asking. No biggie.
 
During one of my X Country flights I was flying to Kissimmee and If I had not specifically asked mentioned I was not approved for Class B they would have spanked me too. I knew I was getting close so I dropped down below and got with Kissimmee. It seems that with that hand off to Orlando you need to, as it should be, ensure "cleared class B". Cant ever assume it.
