Seeing similar posts here, glad that we are taking advantage of the wide-spread IMC.

I had my first actual IFR & IMC flight yesterday. Including filing, picking up clearance, flying in the soup, between layers, hard milk, you name it.
I was ready and did it right and enjoyed it a lot. And managed a greaser too (just one, though).

Attaching a picture of my view from the cockpit. :D

Kidding aside, though, there was a brief time we were between layers and it was "purdy".

I like your second pic there. My last real IMC time was last April flying from GVL to RDU. Solid overcast down to around 400' AGL, but when I broke out at around 4000', looking to the north was a beautiful view of the Smokey Mountains peeking over the deck. Wish I had thought to snap a pic.

Congrats, flying actual can be a very rewarding experience. Enjoy

Sounds like fun! Love the first 'IMC' shot....

It's always fun climbing out of crappy weather, breaking out on top and needing to find those sunglasses.:cool2:

Is that ice on the leading edge in the pic from the second post?
Negative, Ghostrider. Believe it or not, it is the original paint on the wing. The rest of the wing is the c*appy clear coat that somebody sprayed over it and judging from how yellow it became in the last year or two and how it is flaking off, I bet it was a rattle can job with cheap cans from SprawlMart. The flakes sometimes stand up on the wing and make it look like I have a STOL kit. :D Naturally, I knock them all off before flight.

(I can't see the pic in the first post)
Yup, that was the intent. :D
Unless you are literal and cannot see the file which is a PNG so technology might be failing you on that one. (let me know and I can maybe repost it in another file format)

Thanks for sharing.
Glad y'all enjoy it. I also thought it would encourage other IR students to seek IMC when they can. It is not as bad as some myths make it out to be.

Thank you, Gary. Only 3 people (of my pilot friends) so far got it (before you), I am surprised how few people have a good sense of humor. :)

I had my sunglasses ready but didn't need them. I knew we weren't going to reach the tops (looked at the Skew-T), we were in some thick tall stuff.

Did you get your rating Lou or was this just a training flight? I remember you mentioning it on the red board.

Congrats for getting out into actual either way though, I love the in-between layers picture. Don't get that much down here in FL (if at all).

Close to getting my rating, comfortable enough to go up into actual.
Now if only the clouds dropped some more. OVC050 is not what I care for right now. :)

Awesome, and yeah it's like that EVERY darn day here in FL. OVC 050, OVC 040, FEW 025, etc etc..

The morning I did the video I posted I was ECSTATIC it was OVC 006, had to do a double-take to make sure I wasn't transposing the zeros heh..
