What is a good place to rent a Cherokee or Archer from at FRG? I trained at Ventura and have been renting from them but today was the last straw.

There's always something with the plane. Something is usually INOP'd, issues with scheduling, etc. Today, I could get the plane started for 15 minutes and got ****ed and left. I wasn't going to pre-flight another 40 year plane in 25 degree cold and hope it starts. Even though the planes are plugged in during cold weather, it seems to do nothing to help with starting. Hell, they don't start well in warm weather either.

TIA

Check out Global Aviation in Atlantic. They have pretty good rates. All their planes have 430s and one has a 650 in it. Also check out Nassau Flyers. They are pretty expensive but you get quality aircraft with a high dispatch rate.

I feel your pain. The 172 at the local airport is a pile. I had to jump start it this morning, then again after it had been sitting for about 10 minutes after the prior flight. I gave up, and I'm buying now. Have you looked on Open Airplane?

Orange I know you specifically asked about Farmingdale but if you want to travel out to Islip or Brookhaven check out Mid Island air service. They have a lot of 172's and a 200hp archer that they rent. They are a terrific bussiness to work with and I've only had some small issues with the planes not starting( only one time and it was like 20 degrees that morning.)

Hahah trained out of Ventura for PPL and then had enough as well, and I definitely hear you. Positive Rate Gear Up has decent pricing with two archers. One of them have a working autopilot.

PS- I probably know which plane you had an issue starting haha. Had the same issue when I brought that plane over to Boston. Weather dropped below freezing, came back, and even though I had the plane plugged in, couldn't get it to start. A mechanic onsite also had a look, couldn't explain anything. Had to wait it out till the next morning.

Well, I have a friend at FRG who is selling his Cherokee. I think he's asking in the mid 20s and it has a 430.
