My 1981 Archer only has a 2 place intercom. The rear seats can only get intercom if I use my audio splitters (or whatever they are called). That makes a bunch of annoying wires going to the back seats. What does it take (besides a 4 place intercom in my panel) to run wires back there? Do the wires run through the side panels? I have the good old 80's ash trays in the back. Could I run the wires there and replace the ash trays with plugs? How many shop hours would that typically run me?

Thanks,
Audio-challenged pilot

Was literally just thinking of this same question today. I'm looking at used planes to buy and want to know if I find a great plane but without 4 place intercom how much I'm looking at spending to upgrade it from 2 to 4 places.

Thanks for asking- I'll be following!

It takes an hour a side to run the wires yourself, plus a 6 pack when you get through with the job.

Making a metal plate to replace the ash trays is a good idea.
