Go Pro Wing Mount

I put mine using the GoPro "roll bar" kit on the step of the Navion.
A friend mounts his on the wing tip of the RV8 by just using one of the go pro mounts and a slightly longer screw that was already holding on his wing tip fairing.

That looks like a nice mount, and may go on my "wish list" of RAM mounts, of which I already have many.

As a caveat, even with a short, 1" arm, the RAM system will usually have enough play to invoke the "jello" effect in a plane.

It is best to either snug down the GoPro to something solid, or add another arm to "triangulate" the mount and reduce play.

Here's an example of a suction cup mount and SuperLok tape used to provide triangulation, in this case with the GoPro mount:

Here, I used a suction cup but used tywraps to snug the camera down against the strut (with appropriate cushioning):

Similar theme on my KTM - suction cup with bungees holding the GoPro snug against the tank (and always a tether):

You can see with the vibration of planes and bikes, its hard to eliminate ALL vestiges of jello.

BTW, my Sky Arrow is Experimental, so I have pretty much carte blanche to mount things to it. Just be careful to consider airflow, consequences of the camera coming loose, unbalancing or jamming of control surfaces, that sort of thing. And there may or may not be legalities involved in Standard Category aircraft, but that's another thread.

Something I've wondered about with mounting cameras on external surfaces of planes...

If the thing ever fell off and hit somebody on the ground, would insurance cover you?

Or could somebody hurt or injured on the ground sue you for everything you have? I suppose people could sue for anything nowadays...

When I eventually start flying, I'd love to mount an external camera, but the thought of it falling off gives me pause.

Eventually firmly securing it with a very short metal cable? ;-)

Keep in mind that if that camera does lose its mount, the tether is going to have a camera flapping on the end of it and pounding into your airplane.

^^^ This. cost of skin repair/paint > cost of gopro.

edit: ok, and cost of lawsuit > cost of aircraft.

I am officially humbled into knowing less than I did 5 minutes ago. thank you, POA.

So what are the legal parts of this conversation? As far as putting it on the outside of a plane? We've all seen the videos to prove people do it but that doesnt mean it is legal. If it is I would love to throw one on my 150 when I go flying.
