A friend is considering buying a globe "Super" swift. He is negotiating to do a pre-buy on what might be a nice one. He spoke to the IA who took care of it and is also having an independent mechanic inspect the plane.

If he buys it I told him I'll fly it - split hangar/insurance and pay him hourly for mx/overhaul reserve.

Just curious if anyone has owned/flown one. The one he is looking at is a 210HP continental IO-360 with C/S prop. Has some other goodies like GAMI's and a JPI plus a basic 6-pack and IFR setup. Seems like a sweet ride.

Local friend has the 210 conversion, stick, slider, etc. I've flown it and listened to his comments for 15 years, with much more listening than flying. The engines tend to run a bit hot, and require careful attention. He is concerned about engine mount sag, and maintains some lifting pressure with a sling around the prop hub when hangared.

Thanks Wayne.

This one is in TX. Sticks, slider, 210. Now that you mention the they run hot - I am happy to see it has a JPI, hopefully the owner used it.

Any idea of the numbers on it? I was guessing around 10gph and 145-150kts

I don't remember the numbers, we've never made any trips. Talked about OSH once, but took the Bo instead. Where in TX? LNC?

Not much to add besides I hope the pre buy goes well, always wanted to fly a Swift. For what it's worth, two pireps on the characteristics, first is a 125 hp, second's a really custom 250 hp mod. Both sound like sweet airplanes.

Hmm. Take an airplane that looks and handles like a small WWII fighter. Double HP and add bubble canopy plus sticks.

Sounds like a winner to me :)

This one does not have a steerable tail wheel. But the gear stance is wide and the brakes are toe/ disc. I'm used to a j-3 where the big elevator pins the tailwheel down and you avoid using the crappy heel brakes

Drool.

That is all.

(I had a much longer message typed and lost it because of the damn date token thing. Grrrrr.)
