So, I've been thinking about adding on a glider rating, and I was looking to visit a buddy in Salt Lake I haven't seen in a while so I thought with that upslope to the Rockies right there, there should be some pretty decent glider operations. Am I wrong?:dunno: Any recommendations?

Back in the day there was a glider club at Hill AFB which based a couple of Blanicks at Brigham City (BMC), north of SLC. I got my CFIG in one of the club's Blanicks and did quite of bit of flight instructing there for a couple of years. I've worked gliders all up and down the Wasatch front and the soaring conditions are very good. I'm sure they've probably closed the operation at Heber City for the season, the soaring would still be fantastic, but not worth the frostbite. You might consider something in the "deep" southwest this time of the year. I'm sure there are soaring sites in SoCal, Nevada and Arizona that would be more than happy to get you squared away. Good on you for wanting to pursue this. It is a good thing and will make you a better pilot.
 
Contact Leading Edge in Logan. They are a commercial flight school with a Blanik L-23. I think that is the only commercial operation available, especially in the winte . Utah Soaring Association has four Grobs between Logan Heber City Morgan and maybe one other airport but I think the only place that stays open in the winter is Logan. I've had a couple fun flights on the ridge there and they get good mountain wave too.
 
If you're really lucky you will get to fly with Adam Kite, probably the best CFIG in that area or any area for that matter.
