So how many people who live in the dry climate without mosquitoes and tornadoes would be interested in attending a fly in? My initial thought would be to Monument Valley (UT25) where the lodge is just up the hill from the runway. We'd have to plan for the cooler months and learn the busy season but with reservations, this would be doable. I've never been there but those of you who have might offer your thoughts of UT25 or possibly another nearby location centralized for those of us in the West.

Also I noticed that Tim has posted the annual Page fly in in another thread. That could be our thing. Never been there either.

interesting 6:15 in the 182 if i use that. a little faster if i have something else. the west is BIG :) but probably worth it. Based on your avatar, will you do the "what can you make of this, Johnny?" routine with a chart?

Well, I can make a broach or a pterodactyl....

Is your 182 white with a red stripe?

4:21 from me.
hmmmmm. When you thinkin?

Spring, Fall or Winter. Summer is too hot and bumpy.

As you can see there is a pool and a pond...pond would be good for you. :)

Gawd that's a great movie, so many great quotes.

white with blue, though it might have been red as it's had a paint job or two since the 70's. I'm in an equity club, so it's not all mine

thanks for being a good sport.

additionally, it seems like winter would be a no go for anyone coming over/through the mountains. Spring/Fall might have a better chance of folks making it.

Lastly, is there anything to do there, or are we just going to sit in the desert with our feet in the pond? :)

Page is a great flyin, great airport, close to town, and the option to fly the Canyon. Next door to Lake Powell for boating. Colorado Pilots had a flyin there few years ago, very successful.

Yea I’m seriously considering flying to Page soon.

It was a set up....to see if your plane looked like a big Tylenol. ;)

Page, Monument Valley - doesn't matter to me. I just want to get the ball rolling so the hicks in the sticks don't do something we out West aren't doing. ;)

OK, damn, gotta buy you a beer for that. thanks!

Are there lodges there? like a gastons type setup or? I wonder if there is a destination airport guide for the area. though, it sounds like they've had some big get togethers there.

Reno/taho area looks about centralized for most of the west, but i also don't really care (3.5 from Sky Harbor, 3.5 from SEA) not from for the folks in CA. not sure how far from Colarado it is. makes it further for 6pc, and extra flight time would be worth it for me to meet the legend that is the IT PM. :)

Page would be my choice. Been there three times, twice in a C-150, but to Gaston's only once -- and I live in Missouri.

Like I said, it doesn't matter to me. :dunno:

Just need to plan it out far enough in advance so people can put it on their schedules, make hotel reservations, decided who's bringing the 'tater salad and so on.

Bump. Weather is getting nice

the big issue with a western states fly-in is that the distances between members are so much more huge-er than they are for us east of the Rockies. Heck isn't it almost the same distance from Denver to San Francisco as it is from Denver to like Cleveland?

I was curious earlier tonight and checked...It's the same distance (time) for me as it is for @MIFlyer. About 6:30 in the 182, no wind, and that's swinging south of the big rocks over Santa Fe.

Monument Valley, UT25, 2:15 in the DA40, that is doable.

Page is closer, has slot canyon to visit.

Looked at Page. Lots of hotels, has the dam nearby (just to keep up with our pilot brothers in the sticks) and a short flight to monument valley for the air tour. I'd like it to be at least 40 degrees cooler for this meet up so we all don't get beat up on the way there and the way home. What say you guys?

Looks like the CT Flier group has Page, AZ setup from Oct 17-21 if that works for all to gather at.

Otherwise... UT25 might work, though that's an 4:04 flight in my low and slow LSA.

I'll throw out this option: the Reno Air Races are Sept 12-16. My family has a house about an hour away near Graeagle and Beckworth Nervino Airport (O02). We've got 5 bedrooms and there is a lodge at the property (https://nakomaresort.com/stay/) The Graeagle area has about all the golfing and hiking you'd want plus a brewery-in-the-woods (http://www.thebrewinglair.com/) in addition to some other good restaurants. If there is interest, I could probably figure out some transportation to get us around.

Looked like plenty of hotels in Page. Don't know how many in the CT Flier group there'd be and/or if they've already brokered a group rate somewhere. October is still warm but doable for me.

You tryin' ta git us all kilt? :sosp:

My local training grounds. Spent many an hour there. It's a great opportunity to learn about diversity with the Chinese and South Koreans.

I've spent 6 years of my life with the Asian peeps, I don't need any more diversity or Cessna 172's with a Mesquite call sign cutting me off in the pattern without announcing anything and then flying the bomber pattern to the runway.

Well exccuuuuseee me!

If that sounded the least bit racist, it wasn't meant to be. I just want to fly in airspace where the pilots speak and understand English.

3.5 from Seattle. I could probably do it, unless we get weird weather

Looks like they brokered a group rate with the Clarion Inn for $65 per night. You have to mention you're with the "CT Group" to get the rate. Hopefully OK to post a link, but here's a link to the CT Fly In.
