Tom and I are planning to spend a weekend at Gaston's in October. We hope to get there when the fall foliage is peaking, but that is evidently hard to predict. The weekends of Oct 18th and the 25th are already booking up really fast. Does anyone have any insight as to when it is usually the prettiest in northern Arkansas?

BTW, if anyone else wants to join us that would be wonderful! :yes: :cheerswine: If not, then Tom and I will enjoy a nice quiet, romantic weekend together (with no computer!) probably flying around leaf-peeping.

OK, we've decided on the weekend of the 25th. Plans are to fly down on Saturday and then have Sunday Brunch on Sunday. We are hoping that Wayne will join us, as well as anyone else interested. :yes:

I'm in. Do I need to call them for a room? or what?

I'm glad you're coming Wayne. :) Are you planning to fly the Cessna 180?

Yes, you might want to reserve a cottage or room fairly soon. That seems to be a popular weekend because the fishing is good that time of year and because it's so pretty. We will probably get a small cottage without a kitchen this time around. There were seven of those left when I talked with them this morning.

I'll have my parachutes repacked before we go just in case anyone wants to go play. :)

Can I bring a Sherwin-Williams color chart and pick my favorite shade of green?

Watch me land before you decide. I'm game if you are. I just booked the room, a river view.

Sure! :D

Can I beg a ride in your airplane? :goofy:

I'm trying to talk Kim and Phil into coming down too. :fcross: Wayne, they are from the Kansas City area and probably know a lot of people that you know up there. Kim took her checkride with Ron A. Kim will be flying her Birddog (if they come).

I keep seeing the picture of that damn L-19 on her avatar, and it really chaps my whatsit. Can't she just rent a 172 or something?

It'd be fun to fly up and visit with y'all. I have two trips scheduled in October and am not sure of dates yet. If I can work around those, I'd love to stop up for awhile.

Best,

Dave

Dave, that would be great! :) Maybe you will have time to fly with me? We never get a chance to do that when you come to Gaston's.

Maybe they'll change their mind by then and give me a refund on the room which they could have rented to someone else and not stiffed me with the bill.:(

Bob, maybe you can start your own thread if you want to complain or be cranky about Gaston's. Or you can keep complaining in the thread from several months ago. :rolleyes:

Fly me to the Moon
Let me play among the stars
Let me see what Spring is like on Jupiter and Mars:cheerswine:

Best,

Dave

:eek: :D It's hard to not watch a landing, especially a taildragger landing. I won't tell anyone if it isn't pretty. :no: :)yes: :yes:) :no:

Great! See ya there!
Almost half of mine aren't pretty....but I quit caring about whether or not I bounce....now I focus on recovery....I have GREAT recovery skills....:D

And I can always say, "Well, let me see you do it then." ;)

Bah! You just like girls.....:rolleyes:

So where are you now???

Moved from Kansas to Texas (Dallas) which raised the average IQ in both states.

And at one time, I was fond of wine, women and song. Years have passed, now all I can do is sing.

Diana,

I'll try to make it down for Sunday brunch if nothing else...

...if nothing gets in the way buying a farm, selling a house, etc. etc.

Oh, and I probably ought to go back to work one of these days too.

Okay, maybe not.

:)

"Fly me to the moon" :D BTW, I can't get that song out of my head now.

Hey Tim, I hope you can make it! Maybe you can talk Chris into coming too.

Well we won't be flying down, but Kelly has been bugging me to go somewhere in the new camper and Blake wants to go fishing, so you might see us there for Sunday Brunch. Most likely we will camp down the road at Copper Johns Resort.

I kept thinking of it too, until they played a John Denver concert last night on TV.
Now it:
you fill up my senses;
Like a night in the forest;
Like the mountains in Spring time;
Like a walk in the rain;
Like a storm in the desert;
Like a sleepy blue ocean;

Just keeps replaying in my head.

Best,

Dave

What a wonderful song, clearly written by a man in love. :)

My favorite John Denver lyrics:

I am the eagle, I live in high country
In rocky cathedrals that reach to the sky
I am the hawk and there’s blood on my feathers
But time is still turning they soon will be dry
And all of those who see me, all who believe in me
Share in the freedom I feel when I fly

Come dance with the west wind and touch on the mountain tops
Sail o’er the canyons and up to the stars
And reach for the heavens and hope for the future
And all that we can be and not what we are

I'm more into Travis Tritt with "Here's a quarter, call someone who cares"

Or the Notorious Cherry Bombs "It's hard to kiss the lips at night that chew your ess out all day long"

Or maybe Merle's "Swinging Doors" or Possum's
"He stopped loving her today."

All bring a tear to me eye.

Anybody taking a guitar to Gaston's?

If we could only get Rozy to show....he carries his guitar in his Rocket with him....bless his pointy little head.....

Well, this should be interesting!

I'll have my ukulele, if I make it... but, stuff does tend to take on a bit of a "lighter" flavor on the uke.
That would be neat! I keep offering to play the spoons at Gaston's, but no one ever seems to get excited about that. :dunno:

And what would be even cooler is if the number of women who flew into Gaston's outnumbered the men. :yes:

What kind of Rocket is it, and how does he keep a hat on that head????
