Gaston's Fly-in 2018!

Anyone have a spare bunk available in their cabin?

Watch all of CardinalPilot (or whatever the heck his name is) Gaston’s videos. Probably scare you so bad you won’t come!

Kidding aside, it wouldn’t hurt to fly in the first time with an experienced pilot. It’s intimidating for a low timer the first time. At least it was for me. Looking forward to meeting you and you paying my bar tab of course...

Jesse put this vid together and, like it oft does, once you watch it, YouTube will play others. Lots of Gaston's landing vids on YouTube.

The only thing I'll add is, if you watch numerous videos, then you'll notice that a lot of the folks cut the corner from base to final because they're skeerd of getting too close to the bluff.

DO NOT DO THIS!

Because you'll also notice in the vids that, if you cut the corner, then you can't see the runway until on very short final (unless you're coming in really high). Thus you can't see if someone took the runway for departure and they can't see you.

Get your ass over on the true extended centerline of the runway so everyone can see each other. There can be quite a bit of NORDO traffic at Gaston's.

I'm kinda mad at myself.
I waited maybe a little too long and now I am on the wait list for a cancellation.

I hate to miss Gaston's
If no cancellations, we may fly to Branson that weekend and pop in for a couple meals / fishing that weekend.

Also, PoA-verse, I have a neighbor, a 121 guy and C180 pilot, who may also be interested in attending.
 
I'll be up for Saturday Lunch and Dinner. I need to road trip my new ride. I would have booked a cabin but I didn't know if I'd be out of town for training.
 
Yeah, I also procrastinated and didn't book. In my defense, I booked no more than a few weeks ahead of time for the last two years and didn't have a problem. I reckon I'm screwed this time.

Is Ted or Lance coming? They got good sleeping planes. ;)
 
Soooo, how many of you forgot to make reservations? Is it just going to be me at Gaston’s? Will I have any company?? If so, should we start talking about food?
 
I appreciate the offer, but since I didn’t have a cabin and really shouldn’t be spending the money right now, I offered to cover a coworker’s flight that weekend. My Gaston’s debut will have to wait until next year.
 
Yeah, no reso and somehow double booked the weekend too. Next year!
 
I'll be down Saturday for a few hours to visit. I Have a big weekend the prior week (class reunion) and I started a new job last week so, since I no longer have 6 Saturday's every week, my weekends aren't as open as they were previously.

Same question from me The Seneca is back, and it was too late to know if I should book a room- and they are all gone. Room on satuday night for a couple! Will make appropriate contribution.

I really wish I could join you guys but this particular week end conflicts with the beginning of the regional college air meet competition and I am a volunteer judge. The air meet is in Salina Kansas. Hopefully another event will happen soon! Rob

Definitely on my calendar for 2019.
 
Apparently I was asked "Can we do a family trip and move it to the weekend after Thanksgiving because I have to work Friday and then resume Gastons next year?"
To which I am told I responded "Yes dear" Which I don't recall (and would never have agreed to).

Today when I asked about a trip next weekend, I was reminded of this conversation that I don't recall. (Totally didn't happen)

At the end of the conversation I was told "But if you want to go, do it."
Feels like I am free that weekend somehow now.

So I am under the current understanding that I am a free spirit the weekend of Gaston's.
Provided nice weather, I plan on flying that direction solo. I am going to make this up as I go and may well end up sleeping in my plane.
As long as it doesn't rain, there should be no drowning risk.

But I think I might be going now, just alone.
And apparently also going again with the family the weekend after Thanksgiving.

I was smart enough to ask "You're going to New Orleans with friends next month right?"

I think as long as its even steven, I don't gotta feel guilty about ditching the family to play with my friends.
