Touchdown! Greaser!
Here's a new direction for this thread: Smart watches.
With the plethora of Smart Watches flooding the market, has anyone used one with Garmin Pilot? I'm looking at the Samsung Gear S2, which is (so far) the only smart watch I've seen with almost 100% positive reviews. It's also the only Smart Watch that, in the 3G version, doesn't need to be tethered to a cell phone to work.
Here are some of the things the S2 can do in the cockpit, right out of the box:
- Alarms. I have one set in GP that goes off every 30 minutes to remind me to change tanks, and this alarm would vibrate on the watch. (Via Bluetooth)
- GPS. The S2 has a built in GPS, and uses something called the "HERE Navigator". This is for road use, but could obviously serve as a back-up to GP.
- It's a phone. With the cellular version, you can leave your phone home, cuz it's on your wrist. You can make and receive texts and calls, although it has the same limitations as your cell phone WRT operating in the air.
Down the road, these things seem to have great potential. Personally, I am looking forward to the day when we can look back at carrying a separate cell phone around as "quaint".
Anyone got one?
