Pre-takeoff checklist
Looking to by a handheld gps. I don't want the music or weather so I'm looking @ the 295 or the 296 can someone explain the difference between the 2.

Your best bet is to go to the Garmin site and do a head-to-head comparison. While you are there, look at the newest entry, the 495 (a 496 without weather or music). If you're looking at the 2xx series, it's probably not in the price range you are looking at, but it's worth comparing. I recently moved fro a 296 to a 495 and, even without the AOPA directory and the zoom-in SmartTaxi airport diagrams (a great feature that was the primary lead to the upgrade), the technological differences from faster refresh to better signal capture were worth the price of admission to me.

The 296 is way better than a 295. The improvement in screen resolution alone is worth the difference in cost. The 295 was a pretty good unit in it's day but it's ancient technology.
