GA friendly airport in San Francisco area

I kept my C-150 at Gnoss (DVO) in Novato back in the late 70s. It's a nice airport and the closest to San Anselmo, but subject to occasional flooding during king tides. Smith Ranch (CA35) in San Rafael is private.

Have any of you received permission to land at San Rafael? I have at other private airports, but CA35 didn't even answer the published phone number when I tried.

Many years ago, I flew in there to pick up a CA35 hangar tenant and fly him to Hayward to get his airplane which had just undergone an annual in a Hayward shop. He had told me there wouldn't be any problem picking him up, and there wasn't. Things may have changed since then; back then it was called Smith Ranch, but now it's just San Rafael.

A bit farther north is Petaluma which is a nice GA airport with services, food, fuel and a vibrant community. When crosswinds are excessive at Novato we will fly the five minutes up to Petaluma where any winds are generally right down the runway.
Agree; in the north bay, Petaluma (O69) is a great option.
