I am flying the G1000 and have been for a while, but I haven't flown one that is equipped with the Sirius radio built into it. I'm starting to fly the 182T and the owner that leased it back to the flight school pays for the Sirius radio and I'm wondering where it is located in the menus?

Yup, what Jason said. If you go to Garmin's website and download the free Pilots Guide (PDF) for your system, you'll find the documentation in section 8.6, "XM RADIO ENTERTAINMENT". One important "gotcha" is that the radio's audio is automatically muted during critical phases of flight--departure and takeoff--when the aircraft's groundspeed, as determined by the GPS, exceeds 30 knots and airspeed is less than 80 knots. It does NOT automatically UNmute. You have to go to the page Jason described and manually turn the music back on once you're airborne and flying faster than 80 knots. I'd add it to your "cruise" checklist, as it's probably not safe to be fiddling with the MFD close to the ground.

To unmute, just press the VOL softkey and then press the MUTE softkey.

And when you are bored with flying and with the music, the G1000 is one heck of a video game...

Does it mute when ATC is transmitting?

if you don't want it to mute out... find the MKR/MUTE button on the audio panel. HOLD it down until you hear 2 beeps. It'll still mute out when you talk on the intercom, but not when atc talks.

That's always seemed to be the exact opposite behavior to what I'd want.

Yes, it fades out and then back in, quite nicely.
The XM audio does automatically unmute when you get past 80kts, on some installs.
Now if you want the music to keep playing when ATC talks then all you have to do is hold the MKR button on the GMA down for 5 seconds and wait for the TWO BEEPS that will take it out of auto muting for ATC.
You also can make it so when you talk on the intercom the music will not mute, but to do that you have to go to the set up page when in the installation menu.

The new 563.20 will have 2 VIDIO inputs that can be activated, When that comes out soon.

I also have separate MUTE, VOL UP and VOL DOWN on separate switches on my plane.

Matt, the G1000 cockpit guide should be in the plane to be legal.

I think I would like it to be muted when ATC is talking!

Depending on the relative volume and frequency overlap betwen the "entertainment" and ATC, some folks (I'm one of them) find the muting/unmuting MORE of a distraction than letting the brain "focus" on ATC while the other audio continues to play.

Yes, I agree with that.
So just hold the MKR button down for the 2 beeps if you do not want ATC mute, otherwise the ATC will mute the XM as is.
