I've been using Flickr for ages to post photos to online forums such as this one.

They apparently just changed the interface in such a way I can no longer easily grab a link to the actual image file, at least on my iPhone 6+.

I'm thinking about switching to another image hosting site. And of course, free is better! Any suggestions?

Yes their mobile upgrade killed it for me. I was able to "view like on a computer" or whatever the terminology was on the phone but I think that is gone too now.

You are the product, not the customer.... They all want to make it harder to direct-access a photo in order to better control the display and advertising.

Perhaps you can do something with Dropbox?

+1 for imgur :D

Easy hosting, either from a URL or an uploaded picture, has funny content (other than just hosting your pics). The app isn't that great, I use the browser version on mobile. The link is easy to get - just above the picture (on mobile iphone), direct link, just make sure it ends in .jpg/etc

Interesting. From my iPad I can paste a link to my Picasaweb album but if I hit the photo icon in the toolbar above this post it boots me off the site. Hmmm.

Edit: Same on my iPhone as on the iPad but it works fine from my laptop. Things that make you go "huh." I like Picasaweb, by the way.

To be fair, it may not be all Flickr's fault - some of the blame may be Apple's, re: iOS.

Flickr on my iPhone 6+ does still give the option of grabbing the HTML code for the image. From that one can extract just the link to that actual file.

Until recently, I could just click and hold on that link and get "Select All" as an option, then "Copy". That no longer works. There's a way to select the start of the link and drag down, selecting everything to the right of the cursor, but "Copy" often does not come up as an option. Frustrating.

Good news is the keyboard shortcuts work with a bluetooth keyboard - that's how I got this link to copy:

(These posts and images are all coming from my iPhone via cellular - we're camping in Friendsville, TN)

Still, its kind of frustrating when a work flow you were used to suddenly no longer works.

I use imgur.com for the rare occasions I want to link to a photo in a post, and the forum doesn't support photo uploads natively. It works well for those one-off situations, and I also used it to share albums of progress photos with friends during a recent panel overhaul.

I haven't tried, but get the feeling it would not be a great solution for online archives of large photo albums.

Here's an example of what the interface looks like when grabbing a link for use in a forum post:

When you make an imgur account, every photo you upload stays in a personal library. If you want to share pictures 1 6 and 10, you can make an custom album with those pictures from your library and make a link to it so people can see just those. I did it with the album for the 100ll/JetA testing results

I also use imgur... it's the way to go so long as you're not trying to distribute something that requires an incredibly high resolution. I won't use dropbox since it's blocked at work and I use google drive for most of my 'cloud' storage.

Another +1 for imgur. That's what they're designed for-easy sharing and linking of images. There's a reason the whole of reddit uses it. Mobile app is awkward for browsing but fine for uploading, links are readily available and the site is generally fast and responsive.

May give imgur a try.

I wish Apple had an elegant one-click solution.

Flickr does have a direct interface with iPhoto, which is handy. If only the interface was better.
