I flew the inlaws home from their week long stay yesterday. Upon departure we hit a huge traffic jam on the taxiway of our little airport, which is normally DEAD quiet. A big-get together with a bunch of artists was happening and there was a pile of jets waiting to get out. Clearance was going nuts trying to get everyone out and people were blocking the way because they couldn't get cell phone reception! 20 mins of extra patience required but no other way out. Nice ride on top of solid flat ovc for as far as the eye could see. White below, blue above.
Arriving at destination, the wx was pretty good (but 400' worse than forecast) but we didn't see ground until 50' abv mda - towers in the area make the mins pretty high. The pax were fidgety and don't seem comfortable with that type of flying. Then I departed to San Angelo to see the RioConcho Airshow (held today and tomorrow). My friend's son was there with his F15E from Idaho, what a machine! Cracklin' thunder with 50000 lbs thrust, mach2.2!
4.4hrs mostly in cool clear skies. Paid 4$ for gas most everywhere. Looking for my pics.

I forgot to mention the only downer of the trip. I went back to drop off something in my plane at the airshow and here is this guy doing a preflight on ALL the GA planes on the ramp with a notebook in hand. He said he is sending almost everyone a letter but not going to ground anybody. What a nice guy. Seemed kind of predatory to me.

I guess my question is, were these things that needed fixing? If so... And it reminds me of what that old bank robber said when someone asked him why he robbed banks, "That's where the money is!" - so if your job is to inspect airplanes, an airshow might be a good place to look for some.

yeah, "if you have nothing to hide then you should not fear an inspection".
Then there are those airworthiness inspectors that think a hint of a suggestion of a possible blemish can down an airplane.
I would just hate to see the spirit of the weekend gathering spoiled by the presence of a wolf. Who knows, maybe we will all thank him for finding stuff on each of our airplanes that we had all overlooked, and he will save lives in the process.
Meanwhile, we are sitting in chairs under an airforce jet that is pouring jetA and hydraulic fluid on everyone so we all have to move out.

Thought they weren't supposed to use these kinds of events as an excuse to do that. Easy pickins.

Yknow I thought I heard the same thing several years back.
Hey it was a dude from SAT Bill; watchout. Seemed a little overly-proud of his FBI-like badge to me.

Dave;

Glad you had a real nice flight and airshow. Sorry to here about the downer. Did the fellow with the note book make his rounds to the "Leaking Jet" ?

Nah, I don't think so, it would be outside of his realm of authority being a military a/c. And its quite possible the leaks on the jet were normal or acceptable, (I have no idea). He would probably be skeert of military pilots in uniform anyway.

Ramp checks at an air show; bummer. I know several guys that fly in 'em that claimed they were checked quite regularly. Glad it didn't seem to affect you.
