Found lost cat

Did you give it directions?

Had a mama "cat" like that use my garage for a maternity ward. Caught and relocated 13 "kittens."

Never saw Mama.

P.S - They DO eat cat food.

I've held a raccoon before. Was actually a nice feller.

Not long after we moved into our old house, we heard noises in the attic. BIG noises.

We had a guy come out, and he told me we had raccoons, and for the small fee of $3500 he'd trap them out and repair the entry hole. Thanks, bud.

I bought a couple of traps, found the entry location, and baited the trap with cat food. I caught and re-located 6 raccoon and 4 opossums. Once the noise stopped, I sealed the entry and never had a problem since.

It's extremely unusual for a wild opossum to allow itself to be held like that. If it were any other species of mammal, I'd suspect rabies; but rabies is exceedingly rare in 'possums.

It must be someone's pet, or at least a semi-pet like most of the critters that live around my place and have become more or less friendly with me. The skunk has gotten to the point that she lets me pet her. (That's not something I'd generally do, by the way, except for the fact that both the skunk and I have been vaccinated against rabies.)

Skunks are more friendly by disposition than 'possums, however. I haven't found the local opossums to be especially interested in striking up a friendship.

Yup, that boy is domesticated kinda. No way a wild possum will let you pick it up. Just - no - way. You would lose fingers, or something if you got close enough. Even tamed, they aren't very nice.

Someone is giving away a free cat:

I can't believe he's holding it!

There is a whole festival in Florida dedicated to them. People ate them during the depression.

Dang, you beat me to it! :D

That picture has been around the internet for a long time. It still makes me chuckle every time I see it. I really shouldn't laugh, but well, I can't help it!

They're also immune to the effects of snake venom, and are actually a snake's worst nightmare as they actively seek them out as a food source.

That's not been my experience with possums. They would hiss and bare their teeth when you would get near, but would normally "freeze" if you got within reach of them. The neighborhood kids would snatch them up by the tail and carry them all over the place. Lol. Fortunately, none of us ever got bit.

That's interesting. First, you say it's not your experience. Then, "fortunately none of us ever got bit." because you got them by the tail. My experience was similar, because if you got near the teeth, you had a good chance of getting bit, which is why you kept them by the tail. But I demure;

Admittedly, opossums do carry fleas (as do all wild and some domestic animals). And the opossum may bite you if you are foolhardy enough to grab one; after all, they are wild animals.

I don't know how N American possums became so ugly. In Aus we had Ringtails and Brushytails around the house and they were cute as can be. We even had a ringtail that nested on our windowsill in Brisbane that would come in and hang out that you could feed and pet.
