Released this morning.

But----it REQUIRES iOS 8!

Rats.

that's okay, iOS 8.3 released today so maybe apple finally fixed things...then again, maybe they didn't...

Looks like I'll be sticking with FF 6.7.

Don't really feel like slowing my ipad down with a fatter iOS.

"Upgraded" my iphone by accident to 8.2 from 6.something, dumb move, slower, less function, but I did get cool looking icons and gestures :rolleyes2:

I wish they would make the newer operating systems leaner. Before the accidental "upgrade" my 4S, which I kept due to it being unlocked and a better smaller form factor and better looks IMO, would bring up internet pages, process email, open the calendar and the other few things I use it for just as fast as my girls iphone 6. Now with 8.2 not so much.

I have updated both, have an I pad air. The Internet seems to run a little slower. Other than that it's fine.

Several months ago FF stopped working somehow (forgot), got in touch with technical help almost immediately and they inquired which version of FF was using, I gave them the info and they said I HAD to upgrade, which means I HAD to also upgrade my iPad as well. I am a believer if it is working don't f- with it, but I had to. Luckily everything continued to work, right now I have been ignoring the iPad update for a year now probably only a matter of time before I have to get the new pretty icons and changed methodologies which add no value. I am not an old fart, but getting there.

I hate emoticons. Apple had decreed that everyone should use emoticons, hence the key on the keyboard to turn on emoticon keyboard. In order to do this, the left numerical key has been made smaller and the asinine emoticon key placed in between the numerical key and the space bar.

As far as I can tell, it's not possible to remove it, not even in the General page.

Stupid.

:yeahthat: :loco: :sigh:

I don't get it. I've done every iOS update as they've been released and I can't figure out what guys are complaining about. My current model iPads and iPhone 6+ run circles around my older iPads and iPhones. No hiccups at all. I must be lucky? Naw, my wife, kid, son-in-law, friends, employees, etc all agree. :)

Some people don't have the money to upgrade to the latest model iPad every time one comes out, and some folks object to the 'throw-away" society that constant upgrading of hardware entails. It's one thing if it's a phone that gets beaten up on a daily basis.... it's entirely another with an iPad that gets used occasionally in a more controlled environment.

YMMV.

I work for a tech company...in the silicon manufacturing space. I use my iPad on the couch for web surfing (PoA) and in the cockpit flying.

I have a 1.3 year old ipad mini. I've yet to update to ios 8 series as Apple always tends to add bloatware and making things slower. They are adding features to add features that probably nobody uses. Programatically, even if a feature is disabled, it can still slow down the tablet a bit. A quick "if feature is active, do this, otherwise do this" instead of "just do this" check still consumes CPU cycles, which consumes battery life, which means less times on the couch posting on PoA. :-)

The rest of my life runs Android and life is always good.

Yes, cr-Apple does a lot of stupid things in each iOS release. Then they scramble to fix it in the next update release. Which creates even more bug due to the rushed nature of the bug-fix release. They haven't learned how to do the dev process in the last few decades. Shame. (if you knew the core sample of their developer force, you would understand :D )

I too suffer from their f***-up with the Shift key. It is unfortunate.

Word of advice: if you are not forced (by a higher power) to use iOS, please stay away from cr-Apple devices if you can, for leisure or whatever. Android is the way to go.

To stay on topic: if you have FF on a mobile device with iOS 7 or older, it is time to jump on the bandwagon and join the iOS 8 crowd. And yes, it is a big crowd, full of complaints, pitiful performance and a lot of bugs. Enjoy! :D

Hallelujah!!!!

Thank you, I too hated the existence of that button as I was frequently hitting it instead of the ".?123" button.

Cyanogenmod is even better... :stirpot:

The reason your 6 is soo much faster is because you install all the apple updates/bloat ware requiring a faster and faster processor, more and more ram.

When I ran my 4s with iOS 6.something against my girls 6+ they opened safari, browsed the web, at the same speed. Both had the exact same functions I care about, and frankly like the others said I could do without emojis. Also how safari displays the tabs now, it isn't as clear as the old way IMO.

After the accidental upgrade to 8.X now my 4S appears "old" and needs to be "upgraded" :mad2:

And here I sit happy as I can be and you sit and complain. It seems I might be onto something.

I look at the purchase price of hardware as three year rentals. If I get more than three years, great, but to me, the improvements make it worth it.

I remember FF version 3.0. It was great at the time, but I'd be pretty disappointed running it now.

Yes it's possible to remove it. You can download third-party keyboards that do whatever you like.

It'll be good to get rid of the dead weight code holding FF back from supporting more useful functionality for the larger phones, especially the 6+.

You guys have fun with your 4's playing Angry Birds - oh wait that requires iOS8 too. lol

Perhaps this is Apple's way of telling us we're too old to use the iPad? That we don't communicate entirely by silly pictures? What's next? Prehistoric cave drawings?

I have a middle school daughter :hairraise:, who loves to converse using emoticons. We often try to come up with ones  to make each other laugh. It's all in good fun!

Bill, google "Texts from a dog" and show her some of those.

I think it's closer to 2 years...

Actually, there's a thread over on Red talking about how they broke things. Apparently external gps units, like bad elf, don't work on 8.3.

I wouldn't update yet...

That doesn't sound very good. Did 8.0 break it, or was it not until 8.3? Fortunately my iPad2 has an internal GPS or I'd probably be hopping mad, since I bit the bullet on ForeFlight's advice and moved to 8.1 a while ago.

(Come to think of it there WAS some kind of glitch with that upgrade, that involved the iPad not recognizing its AT&T SIM card. A hard reset and reboot fixed it, but it was definitely an annoyance.)

Looks like FF is coming to Apple Watch!

Yeah, I read that yesterday. That's just what every pilot wants: To shoot an approach to minimums while viewing the plate on a 1" x 1" screen.

8.3. I got an email from foreflight about it today too.

There are things that could be useful, like tactile notifications for waypoints, traffic, SUAs, etc. Don't think I'd buy the watch just for that but if you had one anyway you might as well get extra use out of it.

I got the email today from FF about the external GPS problem. Less than 12 hours after I drank the kool-aide and upgraded to 8.3. That is KRAP!

And I'm flying next week. I just upgraded to Air2 and BadElfPro over the winter because my iPad Gen 1 could not take any more upgrades.

Hopefully it is fixed before I fly.

Edit: I just checked, I have the Bad Elf Pro+. ForeFlight blog does say that the Pro+ will still work. I just checked and it does.

Also FF responded to my email. He said it's been reported there is a way to revert to iOS8.2.
