OK guys, I just registered so that I can get some directions…I bought my first plane and am ready to Geaux (Louisiana slang for Go) places. What are some great, fun, easy-to-navigate places to fly, spend the day or entire weekend? I live in Baton Rouge, LA; and am now an empty-nester…my wife is willing to geaux anywhere within reason for weekend get-a-ways. What do you recommend?

To the east:
JKA (Jack Edwards)- Gulf Shores
DTS, ECP- Destin/Panama City

To the west:
Pick an airport in Houston (I like AXH for my needs)
GLS- Galveston
T82- Fredericksburg (Hangar Hotel on the ramp)

To the North:
HOT- Hot Springs (spas, Lake Ouachita)
HEZ- Natchez

Galveston has good dining and good museums. Houston has many more entertainment options and excellent restaurants. (arts, museums, sports, shopping). Great aviation museum at Ellington, EFD.

I’m based at IYA and all of these are an easy flight in a 182.

What do you like to do? Geaux-Geaux-Rama?

Bonjour! Bienvenue a POA!

Share some pics of good food that you fly to, some of us like that sort of thing here.

I love all of Louisiana. Spent some time near Gonzales.

Just noticed; it’s ok that you bought a low wing, don’t worry about it…

Mustang Beach/Island; KRAS
A lot of things to do around Port Aransas. Also aquarium in the bay, tour the USS Lexington. Deep sea fishing.
